So for all of the guru's in here, say I have ~$1500 that I want to drop on a ~30 gun safe. Mind you half of the safe would be long guns and the other side shelves.

What would the recommendation (best value) be for both weight to deter barry's and for fire protection?

I can't bolt it down in this house yet, but when the new house is found for next year I will. I will have to keep it in my office in the current house, which has wood floors and I don't want to fuck those up when I'm selling ....

      LMAO at Barry's.

Longer the fire rating the heavier the safe will be. Brand would depend on what you come across personally I want an hour of fire rating minimum.

How many guns are you actually planning on putting in it? A 30 gun safe means 30 long guns. If you want shelves on one side, that gets cut in half. If you have rifles with scopes or pistol grips, it also reduces the number you can fit in there. So you could easily end up only being able to put 10 long guns in it.

They only have 1" bolts on 1 side of the door, but If somebody really wants in the safe and knows how to go about it, the door is not where they'll attack it anyways.
I have a Revere 20 which is comparable in size to the Centurion. There's also the RV-20 which is China made, while the Revere 20 is Made in USA. Revere 20 has bolts on both sides of the door. 30 Min @1200F rated. My restriction on the safe was the size of closest I was sticking it in. I'm more than happy with it. It won't stop a determined crook nor long fire, but thus far, I'm in a low crime area, have an active burglar alarm and the fire station is 10 minutes away. All of that should minimize my risk.

After fully reviewing all safe manufacturers, I think I've settled on a Superior Safe. Not as expensive as a Liberty of Fort Knox, but has most of the same features, if not all, and better ratings on a like-for-like model.

Now I just need to go find the one I want... Anyone have any experience with this brand?

Well I just got back from "The Safe Store" in Garland, after viewing all that they carried. After spending an hour there looking through differences, I made a choice and bought one.... or rather my wife made the choice for me. I shouldn't have brought here with me.

Finalist was the Amsec BF6636 in textured black with black nickel hardware.

At 1280lbs and 1/2" steel plate doors (filled with concrete), I'd better never have to buy another one again....

                      How much did you pay?
                      about $3,500??

I am in the market as well, but only want to spend $700-$1,500 on a safe.

After tax and delivery, it was about that...

They had a few in that price range - I'm pretty sure for $1500 you could get something very nice.

It was a good experience, I got to walk around and see/feel all of the differences in safes and it's true - you'll definitely get what you pay for.

I have narrowed it down to 2 models that I am thinking about.
If anyone has any input, please chime in...

Winchester Legacy 26 Black *Electronic Lock*
                          $1,199

                          or

Pioneer 40 Gun Safe 1300 deg Fire safe
                          $1,288

From what I have read...a Winchester safe was beat open with a sledgehammer within 3 minutes, but it looked to be a much cheaper Winchester safe than this model. The specs on this one look pretty good.
Also I read that Pioneer Gun Safes are what used to be Frontier Safes.
                          Any input?
                          Which would you choose?

At Fort Knox, we offer a variety of safes and vaults that can be customized to fit your needs. Protect what is most important.

Yep, I have a friend that owns a safe moving business and I used to help him a lot several years ago. With moving several brands and having to evaluate anything cool I have to say the FT Knox were amazing safes. Perfect paint, custom builds inside and out, and lots more. My favorite at the time was the Chuck Yeager edition, that bastard was heaaaaavy. Definitely the best brand I have seen. A decent local safe is the Winchester brand and they have lots of options you can choose from. FYI guys, the fire insulation is just sheet rock material. Add more for longer defense time.

Yes, and the fire rating is just funny numbers anyway. No real standards on it.

Anyone wanna explain to me the difference in a liberty brand safe and the cabelas safes made by liberty?

Are they a lower end model? Or just rebranded?
