  • Acquiring heavy ordnance

I know in theory you can buy explosive projectiles, grenades, mortar shells, etc. if you pay the applicable $200 stamp and adhere to the ATF storage requirements (and provide proof when you blow shit up) but how can you get the stuff? In all of my years that I have been looking at the NFA classifieds I have never, ever seen any 40mm HE or hand held grenades for sale. Whats the deal? Do the manufacturers simply not sell to the public so as to limit their liability or something?

Not happening. While legal, no one would ever sell them to a private individual.

Who will they sell to? Could you just form a shell corp in delaware called "Texas Ordnance Testing" or something and form 4 them to the corp?

Thought about googling Grenades for sale but thought I might end up on some watch list. I seem to recall grenades can be purchased. Don't know for sure. I think it might be a DD (Destructive Device)
There is this so I assume you can buy them
To be complete in describing NFA weapons, the list includes:

Machine Gun - Fires more than one round with a single pull of the trigger, $200 tax stamp
Short Barreled Rifle - Any rifle with barrel length under 16 inches, $200 tax stamp
Short Barreled Shotgun - Any shotgun with barrel length under 18 inches, $200 tax stamp
Silencer - Also more properly termed a sound suppressor, $200 tax stamp
Destructive Device (DD) - Grenades, bombs, gases, etc., and any firearm over .50 caliber with no legitimate sporting purpose, $200 tax stamp for each grenade or item
Any Other Weapon (AOW) - Is the catch-all for smooth bore pistols, cane-guns, short barreled-short stock rifles and shotguns, etc., $5 tax stamp for this category only.

I am curious why that is, although common sense simply says "because it's a grenade".

Do the sellers have some sort of responsibility for what their products are used for?

This was kinda the unstated assumption he was starting from. He wants to know where to get it , not if he can.

Just like most companies will not sell you body armor unless you can articulate a legitmate reason to posses. When I bought mine I had to send a copy of my DOD ID and a letter of intent. I assume it is a liability thing. They don't want to be connected to the nutjob that uses one with criminal intent.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

Damn! 200 bucks per grenade! Would definitely make you be sparing with them lol.

The North Hollywood bank robbery/shootout is the first thing that comes to mind.

I have also wondered this. I've never seen any HE grenades, 40mm, M67, etc. for sale in my life.

If you have enough land, the ATF will allow you to buy explosives to blast stumps.

Dynomite isnt a grenade but let me tell you, its not something I want to be near going off.

That slurry explosive mix it pretty potent also.

(They dont require a 200 dollar tax)

I've always heard liability reasons. How do you prove it's stored, transported, and better yet to deactivate it when it doesn't go off.

Not to mention, most of these rounds are built for DOD on DOD contracts, I'm sure there's a clause or treaty somewhere preventing civilian sale.

The only HEs I've ever got to bust were on US military bases and their ammo.

That all being said, the form 1 option is there if you want to go home made.
