  • Gunsmith advice...

I have been working on guns like crazy lately and have found out i really enjoy it. The local gunsmiths around here are backed up for 6 months and arent taking orders. I have decided I want to become a gunsmith. Anybody know about the best school to go thru or what certifications are preferred?
    Thanks in advance....
May God give us strength and courage in the time of our darkest hours.

Seen alot of online courses as well.........that would work since I have access to a wide range of firearms to work on.

Tom 'Speedy' Gonzales is an instructor there now and is one of the best if not the best gunsmiths in the country.

I want to get all of those wonderful little certifications. I can do this shit in my sleep, but need the certificate to show that I can. Also very interested in learning how to thread barrels, all of the different bluing processes, etc.

I also want the confidence to drill holes into a $1200 handgun that someone wants to modify.

That does sound like a pretty fun job! Ive found manufacturing of most any sort entertaining.

                    Good luck!!!

Go to your local juco or tech school and take some basic machinest classes that gives you an excellent base for threading, chambering wnd such.

                            Thanks man. We shall see.
My father inlaw has so many damned guns from the past that he has kept me very busy. Then, he was showing some I have finished to his buddies and they are wanting me to work on their's. May end up just going ahead and opening up business out of the house pretty quick. Im currently working on bringing a nickel 1908 Colt Automatic Calibre 25 back to life. it is missing one of the pearl grips on one side, so I am gonna carve a replica out of ebony wood and call it Ebony and Ivory. hehehe.........to be honest, I can see it in my head and it is gonna be pretty fuckin slick.
