I really wanted to go the room reinforcement route, I really did... but from a logistical standpoint it is just really difficult. You need to factor in humidity controls, gun racks, peg boards, appropriate locks and security measures, safety, and vulnerability. After mulling this over I found out that if you do some bargaining you can get a volume discount. I called the Garland Safe Co (I think is their company name) and got 3 safes for a fair deal with free delivery and install (bolted to the ground) with dehumidifiers included:

Pretty much all of this fits into one safe (large pic, click to follow) as well as many pistols:

Another safe is ammunition and various accessories.

The last safe houses the barrett, magazines for various firearms, car keys, documents, random guns, and misc stuff.

Have I ever mentioned that I hate you.... Can I see the inside of one of those safes? I'm in the market and trying to figure out what I need.

Sturdy Gun Safe manufactures gun safes, pistol safes and vault doors sold direct at discounted pricing. Thicker steel, real fireproofing and custom options, for less!

Probably what I'm going to do. Take that door and go from there. It has a latch to lock the from inside for safe/panic room. Based on what I've seen you should recoop money with this in a windowless room if you sell home.

You could rip out a room closet, fireproof insulate/sheet rock, 18-22 ga sheet steel, etc.

Are you willing to add onto the structure or are you wanting to keep the structure intact?

Funny you mentioned this today. I'm buying a new house soon and I was researching this today. Very interested as well.

Sucks you don't have basements there. Basement would be easy to convert.

This... If I build I'm going to do a reinforced CMU room and have access through a closet. Have all the safe room I could ever need plus a storm shelter.

Some neighborhoods do, I'm planning on looking at some.

order the sheet steel (3/8 thick, relatively cheap btw) and use it as you would sheet rock, use 2x6 as studs 8 inches apart, then fill the wall with sand. get a firesafe door with a steel frame and weld it in place. A friend did this and it costed about 2800 in materials, but the room is fire resistant (think it was 1100 for 18 minutes if the math was done right)

....and its 8 foot by 6 foot.plenty of room for everything... probably not gonna work well with a P&B foundation.... some mods can be done like placing some concrete supports under the location of the walls, they sell the cardboard molds for the concrete at lowes
