Poor Mans Gas Buster

Is it necessary to add the high temp silicon to the charging handle of a 5.56 with a .30 suppressor? I had installed the AR Gas Vent hoping that would be enough to vent the gas away from my face and any excess would escape out the muzzle. If it's recommended, would Permatex non-heat resistant black silicon be alright to use? It's what I found in the garage.

My girlfriend bought me a pri gas buster for Christmas. I love it. Before that I did the red RTV and it worked. You could probably get away with any RTV sealant if the rate of fire stayed down.

I've since added a gas vent to the PRI and have zero ga issues.

Another solution is piston.

Didn't think about the rate of fire. Since I won't be shooting at high rates for any extended period of time, I'll use the black that I have on hand. I had thought about using my piston upper as an SBR, but I would rather sell it at a later time.

I ordered a gas buster the other day and I just ordered one of those gas vents. I'm SLOWLY piecing together my ideal SBR. I still need the barrel, BCG, and handguard.

Good to know that these pieces are doing what they advertise. I have high hopes.

What is the problem? I don't quite understand, I've never noticed or hand any issues shooting suppressed that would make me want to "fix" anything.

A lot of gas escapes from the charging handle area when shooting suppressed. If you shoot with your nose close to the handle you get a lot of gas in your face/eyes.

Yes many times, I have never experienced this.

However.... my .223 SBR is piston driven, and my DI gun is a .300blk. I never noticed it in my M16 but I have not fired that many times with the can on it.

That's probably what it is. I have pretty long arms so I use the furthest setting on all my guns and I also buy really long stocks/pads so I have more pull. My face is probably 6" from the charging handle at any time.

Ding ding ding. That sir, would be why you haven't had the problem. Next time you have it out, just for kicks shoot nose to charging handle for fairly rapid fire. You should notice it then.

If you're in an enclosed cell on a range, the effect is more pronounced.

i don't own a can 'yet' all my AR's blow some gas in my eyes. if i don't use my shooting glasses.
