The most casualties came at the Dixie Gun and Knife Show in Raleigh, North Carolina, where attendees bolted -- with at least one woman wiping out in the frenetic scene -- when gunfire rang out around 1 p.m.
    Dang! She done wiped out?!?!

top notch North Carolina wordsmithing there

Lawsuits will be coming along shortly. I would charge them if I was the prosecutor. Dunno what the law terms are but negligent public discharge causing bodily harm perhaps for the first 2 and negligent public discharge for the genius who shot himself.

They may be good people and very sorry but were also incredibly negligent.

On a serious note, I'm sure I'll get heat for it, but I have no problem with requiring a gun purchaser to demonstrate their knowledge of basic gun safety prior to purchasing a firearm for the first time.

I do concede that it would be a slippery slope though, because to be able to enforce something like that, it would be necessary to track all gun purchases for there to be any kind of accountability for such a thing.

              No heat from me.

Anyone whos taken a CHL class has seen the housewife (or tacticool idiot) who has never held a firearm and has the instructor assist them during the shooting test.

I see someone i don't know with a firearm I instantly have a wary eye towrds them. I only go to firearm ranges with people I trust - everyone else around me is an accident waiting to happen.

You could have all the training requirements in the world for proof of competency in owning a gun. But then again look at drivers licenses.

Excellent point. Just imagine the firearm-owning equivalent of someone who drives 100mph on the ice, or cruises around at night without their headlights on.

This. It's especially easy for a newb to be pointing a pistol the wrong way. The last time I was at the pistol range some asshat was holding his gun sideways on the line looking down at it a few stalls over from where I was. It was pointed right at me. Some old dude was teaching him how to shoot but failed to mention this to him so I had to go over there and straighten his ass out.

Unfortunately I could see Obummer using these incidents to further his cause.
Reading that article I was just shaking my head in disbelief....how fucking STUPID can you be to take a loaded 12 guage to a gun show and then pull the trigger while showing it to the police? Then again...how fucking stupid can a vendor be by purchasing a pistol and then pulling the trigger INSIDE the gun show before checking the loaded/unloaded status? Maybe I'm just too overcautious with guns but I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS remove the magazine and lock the slide back to verify nothing is in the gun and THEN make sure whoever is with me sees that I have verified this. Some people just have no business handling firearms.

A flare gun, a .22-caliber pistol and a loaded magazine were among items a 7-year-old had in his backpack at school, police said Friday.

New York (CNN) -- Things a 7-year-old boy expects Mom to put in his backpack: A peanut butter sandwich. Pencils. Maybe even a nice note with a little heart scrawled on it.

Things he doesn't: a flare gun, a .22-caliber pistol, a loaded magazine and, for good measure, 14 more bullets in a plastic bag.

But that's exactly what a second-grader had inside his Batman backpack Thursday morning when he arrived at Wave Preparatory Elementary School in Far Rockaway in Queens, Police Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne said Friday.
i dare say America will get what she deserves.

In the USAF, we had clearing barrels. When clearing your weapon, you stepped up to the barrel, stuck the gun's barrel into the clearing barrel, then proceeded with clearing the weapon. No one was allowed within 6 feet of you. When you were done, you backed off and the next person stepped up. Why can't the gun shows do something like that?

Are you seriously proposing that people go to the entrance of a gun show and fire their weapons....in a public place where the possible firing can be heard from a distance? That would likely create a panic, MANY 911 calls...generally I'm thinking that wouldn't be a good idea.
