  • Info on tactical style shotguns?

Looking to buy a shotgun for home defense and fun at the range. I was looking at the Mossberg 500 tact 12 guage. At $400+ it's a little higher than I'm wanting to spend. Any good alternatives or a good place to buy a used one.

Looking to buy in february with tax return.

I love my Benelli Nova Tactical. It rules, and it was $341 from Bud's.

Mossberg Maverick 88 - virtually the same as a 500 except the safety location. The 500 has a tang safety and the Maverick has a crossbar. Other than that, all other parts are interchangeable between the two. All sorts of tacticool stuff out there for 500's.

why tactical? more of a fun thing

        check out mossberg maverick 88

academy used to have it w/ 28" & 18" barrel for like 225.

otherwise looked for used ones... mossberg 500, remington 870, winchester 1300 defender, etc.
i picked up an 870 w/ knoxx stock for 250 & then sold the knoxx & installed orig wood furniture

350 or less should be doable used

Yeah, more of a fun thing. I've grown up with normal pump shotguns and one semi-auto 2 shot shotgun.

What do you mean by tactical? An extended magazine tube?

Pistol grip with shoulder stock. I think that this is what it's called. Similar to this.

Buds had 500s around $330 the last time I looked... Personally I like my basic 18" 870 with a fixed stock. I'm not a big fan of the "M4" style stocks on a shotgun, and I don't want anything to do with a pistol grip (no stock) 12ga

See, I like that style stock. I'm a pretty big guy and I'm not too worried shooting a 12 gauge pistol grip. Then again, I've never shot one.

They are fun to play with, when you can blast away from the hip... But for home defense I would want a stock. I just think that the safety and action release is easier to work with a standard stock IMO. It doesn't matter which way you start, it's so damn easy to modify these shotguns that can you try different setups and sell what you don't like.

In all honesty, home defense is gonna be 1/1000 of this guns use, hopefully.

IMO, whether adjustable or not you'll want the shoulder stock available. Depending on the type of shell you're shooting - will dictate how much support you need. Slugs/buckshot...etc you'll appreciate having that option available to you.
