Easy tear down, pretty simple design, I run a Choate Dragunov stock on mine, Choate Scope mount (currently working on resetting it), little bit of trigger work (much smoother and more predictable now), & muzzle break. I had an Ati folding stock at one point (pretty poor quality and the gun fit pretty sloppy in it, and have tried 2 different receiver cover scope mounts. The style with the side set screws holds well, but when you go to break it down you will potentially loose your zero. I did mod the bolt to allow mag removal and install with the bolt in the closed position. Make it much easier, my experience is that the factory 10 round box mag works and feeds great, I've had jamming issues with my steel mags, recently picked up a tapco 20 round (fits nice and installs/removes nicely with the tapco extended mag release) but have yet to test fire it with the mag.
All that said I think they are good fun plinkers. There are some norinco variants that run ak-47 mags, we have one paratrooper model this way.

They're a great rifle for the price. You'll here lots of uninformed people bag on them about the price, but hey, this isn't 2009 so $400 is about average now days. Several months ago the prices seemed to spike slightly. Reason being is that these were not produced in Russia for many years and I was told by an FFL that the surplus of them is gone. What's on the market now is what there is, thus the price increase.
They're reliable and fun to shoot. Like many Russian rifles, they're a bastard to attach a scope to. If you're going to go the route of hi cap mags, go Tapco or don't go at all. They work wonderfully and I've heard to many horror stories from other owners in regards to steel knock offs or other Tapco wannabes. Although with a little practice you can reload as fast as or faster with the stripper clips than someone with a mag.
Don't be dumb and fall for the 'paratrooper' version. the paratrooper was simply a sales gimmick for the importers where they cut down the barrel and charged more. For some reason they sell for a whole lot more. There is the M version which fetches a pretty penny as it takes the AK mags. From what I've read and seen you can convert them to take AK mags but it's a sloppy conversion and you have to cut a triangular groove in the back of each mag. There are also a couple of companies that sell bullpup conversions or these that I think look pretty slick.
For the cost I think they're one of the best bangs for the buck.

I had a yugo when I was a kid, and I loved it,and I could shoot it very well. It got stolen with the majority of our guns, and I missed it quite a bit. My brother picked up one in the parking lot of MGS one day off a guy who wanted to sell it, but they had a full stock and wouldnt buy it from him. I want to say it was $75 or $100, roughly 8 years ago.
I put a folding stock on it to get some length (the factory stock was stupid short) and a 30 round "duck bill" mag. I picked up a poly mag the first time, and while FMJ works fine with it, the hollow tipped Wolf stuff I tend to shoot digs in and wont feed. I picked up a metal one and so far no issues. Ive thought about picking up a Dragunov stock and maybe even going back to the standard 10 round with stripper clips, and trying a scope on it. I put a muzzle break on it, and it helped with accuracy quite a bit."If I asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses." - Henry Ford

They are good when they are cheap inexpensive guns, but they are no AK. People want to make them into AK's but that's not what they are. If you're going to spend that kind of money you might as well pick up a cheap AK like a WASR."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

Obviously, the smart thing to do at that point is post it up on the internet.Originally posted by lincolnboyAfter watching Games of Thrones, makes me glad i was not born in those years.
