  • Ask for ammo at Wal-mart

So, was grocery shopping at Wal-mart this evening and swung by the ammo shelves just to see. They were bare, but then I commented to the guy behind the sports cash desk, "Any idea when you'll be back in stock?" He asked what I wanted, and I just said some .40, and he then went and unlocked the cabinets under the cash register and grabbed me a box. I saw .38, 9mm, .30-06 and more boxes, but couldn't identify them all. I'd say stacks about 4 high or more of each. He told me he keeps them there to prevent people buying ALL of them at once, but if people ask, he'll get out a box for one. I asked about .223 and he said that's really hard to get and he doesn't know when on that.

So...be sure to ASK the guy at the Sports desk. Dunno if all the Wal-marts are doing that, but worth a shot.

Ya... stash them so people don't buy them all. Retail genius, I tell ya.

The guys at the local Academy have been overheard talking about not putting all of certain calibers out at one time. Almost like they are rationing the supply. I don't know if that is a corporate thing or just the local guys making their own rules.

Or get friendly with one of them and have them text you what they get in on the trucks each night, before it leaves receiving. <--- what I did in '08.

At Academy in Grapevine yesterday an employee was attempting to put PMAGS on the shelf. Some of the employees were hoarding them and talking about selling them.

I was able to grab a few but some guys got pissed and confronted management. I'm not sure what happened though.

The one I went to the other day and they said they have been getting some in but it never hits the shelf. It showed in stock when I went over there. The asst. manager laughed and said that happens all the time. He said something along the lines of, I'm looking for it as well.

I would be willing to bet that employees everywhere are buying(or stealing) the stuff coming in and selling it elsewhere.
