  • Best $500 shotugun?

I'm looking to get my first shotgun, so I thought I would ask your thoughts. I plan on having it for dove / quail / home defense / shooting some clays. I am going on a quail hunt this month and I borrowed a shotgun for a dove hunt earlier this year that was a Remington 1100 that was pretty nice.

I would like a used ~$500 shotgun, so what do you suggest? Would like 28" barrel and 12ga, based on the few I've held at stores.

          Depends...

I like an 1100 for bird hunting because I can look for the next target without worrying about pumping in another round...

However comma. For home defense nothing says get the fuck out/you are fucked like the universal sound of a round being racked into the chamber as an introduction.

This is a very good option and one of my favorite auto loaders. The 870 is a very good standby and reliable shotty as is the Mossberg 500.

If you're going to use mostly for hunting/sporting, you can pick up a used Remington 1100 for about $500. Best autoloader for the money.

$$500 for a 1100? I have a few from the 80's that are almost mint and I had no idea they might fetch that much.

If they're in good condition, they'll go anywhere between $500-$750 depending on the model 1100. The American Trapt version tends to pull more.

I just traded one for a value of $450 and it had a fixed choke barrel. They are a good design but I would rather have the Beretta 390 the system is less finicky to fouling, I've never been hugely fond of the gas ring system they use.

Sweet now if I can figure out what model my Winchester o/u pigeon grade skeet gun is I would be doing ok. I have the recent gun trader book but I can't find it for shit.

BTW OP get an 1100 and put in 2 or 4 shot in it day to day for home defense. Then come hunting time put in bird loads.
