  • AR15 Prices....should I trade or no?

I've got a Colt AR15 that I've owned for a while, but ironically have never taken it out and put a round through it....so it's still as brand new. It's a pre ban (#CH017XXX) Sporter Competition HBAR. A good friend of mine has been trying to talk me out of it for a while...he actually wants it to give to his Dad as a gift, apparently his Dad already has an AR but has commented a number of times that he'd like to have a Colt.

Anyways...I'm wondering about what these are realistically going for, I know prices have been climbing a little lately, but I'm skeptical as to how much realistically they are selling for vs. what some of these goofs are trying to ask for them.

I got a very good deal on it back when I got it, so not intending to gouge my friend on it...actually want to make him a good deal...just want to make sure I'm not gouging myself too badly.

Are you sure that's a pre-ban? If it's a sporter competition HBAR, without a threaded muzzle that's a post-ban. At least, my last two were post bans. Does it say AR-15 on the rifle?

      I paid $1,100 for a pre-ban Sporter II about a month ago.

Does your gun have the sear block in it? Is is a large pin gun? Does it have an SP1 carrier or the weird half-moon carrier?

Ah, he might have a post-SP1 sporter II, that's right.

I had been told that the Colt Pre ban was anything with serial # CH019XXX and down and I've seen a few advertised the same out on gun broker. It does have a threaded muzzle too. Does not say AR15 on it....looks like this....

Yes that's pre-ban. Alex asked a good question, does it have a larger front pin on the lower? Usually it will have a flat head screw in it.

Yeah, just pulled it out to take a look....does appear to be a large pin, and has a flat head screw in it.

Not that big of an issue, however it means whoever buys your gun will need to use a spacer if they want to switch out uppers/lowers. They are not your "typical" AR-15, as their front pin is a larger diameter. I'm curious (for my own reasons) if it has an SP1 BCG.

SP1 bcgs can also have serrations on the right side. In fact most do.

That's why I removed it quite a bit ago, it doesn't have an early one so it was irrelevant.

id agree with this guy. Some one might pay ok money for it but i dont see it going down in value any time soon. When it comes to boom sticks I'm more into buying than selling. Firearms never really lose any value..
