They're pretty nice, but they're expensive, and the fact that you have the bushmaster in hand would make me send it in to them for their gas piston conversion. You might even see if they'd do a full overhaul on it, while they're at it. You should come out cheaper, and you're already familiar with the weapon. Why are you telling yourself you'd prefer the 556? Would you keep the bushmaster as a personal weapon? I'm assuming this is for your duty carbine... correct?

DOHCTR is correct. I no longer have my Bushmaster. This next rifle is for personal use. We now have Colt LE's at work.

I will keep that in mind. I hear they are having QC issues?
Have you thought about the MSAR rifles? I think they are pretty neat and the new ones can use ar15 mags. I have been thinking about getting one. Here is a size comparison to more conventional rifles-
Also check out the bushmaster ACR and the FN SCAR rifles if you want something different.
I too have heard about some issues on the Sig 556 pertaining to the bolt/carrier wearing prematurely.

The ACR and SCAR are gorgeous weapons. Unfortunately they are well about my price range. I'm capped at 1,200.
David: That's pretty impressive.

I remember hearing that the Sig was or may still be having issues with spent brass damaging the finish around the ejection port... That being the only issue I can think of besides weight.
