    Feinstein to Introduce Updated Assault Weapons Bill in New Congress, December 17, 2012
    Feinstein Statement on Connecticut School Shooting, December 14, 2012

    Summary of 2013 legislation

    Following is a summary of the 2013 legislation:

    Bans the sale, transfer, importation, or manufacturing of:

    120 specifically-named firearms
    Certain other semiautomatic rifles, handguns, shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and have one military characteristic
    Semiautomatic rifles and handguns with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds
    Strengthens the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and various state bans by:

    Moving from a 2-characteristic test to a 1-characteristic test

    Eliminating the easy-to-remove bayonet mounts and flash suppressors from the characteristics test
    Banning firearms with “thumbhole stocks” and “bullet buttons” to address attempts to “work around” prior bans
    Bans large-capacity ammunition feeding devices capable of accepting more than 10 rounds.

    Protects legitimate hunters and the rights of existing gun owners by:

    Grandfathering weapons legally possessed on the date of enactment
    Exempting over 900 specifically-named weapons used for hunting or sporting purposes and
    Exempting antique, manually-operated, and permanently disabled weapons

    Requires that grandfathered weapons be registered under the National Firearms Act, to include:
    Background check of owner and any transferee;
    Type and serial number of the firearm;
    Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint;
    Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law; and
    Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration

        NFA info for grandfathered weapons? Yeah fucking right. How many "assault rifiles" are out there? How in the hell could they possibly find them and implement this registration? All my rifles will be moved to my trust.

          I like the first "study" they cite on that website about the decrease of gun violence, yet fail to mention that gun violence has continued to decrease even after the weapons ban was lifted. Completely blows any other argument out of the water.

            Give an amnesty period to register, should be tax free, after that anyone without registration paperwork will have contraband.

              Given the speed of government, that's going to have to be a long amnesty period.

                I hope the bill dies before it even hits the floor. If a single republican in the house even looks like they are going to vote it, they need to be found with a dead hooker in ther closet. Same should go for over have the dems too.
                Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

                  I doubt this will pass.

                    Planning to deal with anything they consider an "assault weapon" the same way they did full autos, I guess. There is no way this should pass, of course I thought that about the last election too.

                      They couldn't handle the work load. You'd have to look at pistols and shotguns also.

                        I think many of you misjudge the tucked up priorities of our government. We are too far in debt, keep raising the limit, spend on dumb shit, and basically do nothing about everything. But when it comes to an idiot in office and a pet idea, they would do it just to do it. Even if it doesn't help or its outrageously excessive

                          This is going after all guns but hunting rifles. They would do it just to do it and then fail implementing it. Make sure to contact your representatives and post any responses.
