I carry a kershaw, have for years now, started with the whirlwind and after a few trips back through snapon, my last replacement was a blackout version. The edge is incredibably sharp when new, i've never been able to duplicate it unfortunately. I love the assisted part, and prefer a half and half blade. That being said i've got a fairly large number of knives as they are like gun addiction. Once you buy one you want more. It consists of a few autos (1 benchmade, stilleto knock off, and something else my dad bought me), 2 other kershaw assisteds, titanium butterfly, a hand built skinning knife my mom bought me, huge kershaw survival knife my dad got me at @ age 8, some folders, and various pieces from other friends and family.

I am curious on the penalty on fully auto, because I would like to own one. But yeah, I get that most modern stuff is just as useful.

Unfortunately, it won't be here til Wed but I will post my thoughts on it once in hand. Of course that won't help with how it may hold up long term, or how well the edge holds.

I'm a huge Spyderco fan, I usually EDC one. Check out their line.

One thing that a lot of people don't really take into account when looking at these is how deep the knife sets in the pocket. Some people like it ho hang out the top of the pocket a bit, I personally like to have the entire knife below the pocket line. Take a close look at the Xray Mini or the visionary I from SOG. They both have great build quality, great blades, and are really rugged.

The Spec Elite Mini would be on my short list also.

I hadn't given that much consideration! I am with you, and would prefer it to be below the pocket line.

My full size X-ray after a few years of really hard abuse. Still holds a great edge and will shave hair when needed.
