  • Shooting 9mm through .45 suppressor opinions

Well I sent off two different suppressor types to Jeff at LivetoShoot to see what he could get me.

I wanted the YHM Wraith XL QD but he says he cant get it. The other one I asked him about is the YHM .45 Cobra M2. I know you can shoot 9mm through a .45 can, and even .40 through it...but is it really worth to buy it if it won't suppress it that well?

This is mainly for my 9mm DDLES SBR. I wanted a super quiet 9mm carbine and occasionally put it on my Glock 22 with G17 conversion kit.

Should I try to get a different 9mm can or go ahead and have the versatility of a .45 can?

I tried my hardest to get an AAC eco-9 or evo...but they are no longer being manufactured and I can't find any for a decent price.

    TIA

I cant give any advice on shooting what through what as I haven't done it, but Silenced America always (atleast before Friday) has tons of everything in stock and at probably the best prices nation wide. They may be worth a look.

It will be fine. Usually suppressing overbore only has a minimal disadvantage. But, if you really want a 9mm then get one. I however would get a .45 can so I can suppress everything I own with 1 can.

Thanks CJ, I just didn't know if a lot of DB will be lost because it is overbored. I like the idea of shooting three calibers with one can.

I am pretty sure that despite it being a .45 can, it cannot handle rifle calibers unless it's something low pressure like .300 BLK right?

It's all about volume, but yes that's correct. A 9mm can will suppress .300blk subsonic as well, just like a sparrow will suppress a subsonic .223. You can youtube ".300blk Osprey" and hear a .45 silencerco osprey on a .300 blk subsonic if you want.

          .45 can on 9mm

Looks like the next purchases are going to be a 22lr can, 45acp can and a 762 can

That's the best array to get. It covers all your bases.

They're already NFA. I doubt they get restricted further.

Probably not, they are NFA items and the last ban they were immune.

Reminds me, I need to get in touch with Jeff and get some money put down on my Arbiter and mounts.

I have shot .300blk through my Gemtech Tundra. No problems with the can. I do think that either my model 1 barrel or my thread adapter are not 100% concentric as I had very, very light bullet rubs at the suppressor's muzzle. Enough that it was throwing the round off too.

Just remember while they won't be banned, they'll be considered a evil feature and wont have many uses on what would be post ban guns.

There is already a huge misconseption about suppressors even in the pro-gun culture. Some ranges won't even let you shoot them. I guess they think that anyone who owns a suppressor thinks they are a hitman or something. I just like to shoot my .22lr in the house without disturbing the dogs or hurting my hearing.
