Nah, it's really easy. Acetylene torch, gloves, and some motor oil. We'll just spot harden like most manufacturers do. You can knock out a receiver in about 20 minutes if you're taking your time. bulldog896 is the guy to ask about AK's, Steve really knows his stuff and can probably elaborate.

You're looking for AK receivers that have the rails already bent. It's tricky to do even if you have a metal brake. Robert RTG sells them for $22.95 as well as rivet kits.

Well you happen to have the right guys on this board to do it. Phaux is a professional welder (with a welding truck), he can take care of any of the welding. If Keith doesn't have a press I can supply one. Also, I can supply the headspacing gauges. The main problem we will likely run into is the large amount of parts kits available. There are many differents ones out there and it can change the difficulty tremendously. I'll try to briefly cover which kits you should be looking for.

Easy rivet builds:
Romanian G AK-47
Polish AK-47
Bulgarian AK-74
Hungarian AMD-65
Generally any AK that is not a PSL, RPK, or Yugo.

Harder rivet builds:
RPK trunion guns (such as Yugos)

Milled receivers.
Only need barrels pressed and headspaced.

Try to stay in the top category.

I can't view it at the office, but when I get home I'll take a look. Judging from the URL I assume it's a Bulgarian AK-74 kit, which would be fine. Is it with or without the barrel?

That is a good price. Should be able to build a complete AK for $350 - not too shabby!

I cannot decide to get that one or wait until they throw a price up on this Romanian fixed stock AK! I love the traditional all wood furniture fixed stock AK's! (I'd have to replace that lower front grip piece with one without the hand grip on it)
