            I don't come in the armory much, but this kind of shit intrigues me.

            This is exactly what I would be doing - and with my new found interest in firearms, I'd be the out of sight, out of mind guy. I ALWAYS check out the flat lands when I'm out on the road traveling. I'd pick a 'higher' hill/mountaintop type of place that has clear line of sight over lower lying land that has to be used to access the hill top.

            I'd have some sort of 'longer range' rifle for stopping a threat that was further away. Most zombies appear to lack brain power, or logic - so they'd be hard pressed to find single shot gun fire from a distance. Especially by the time they'd hear it - it would be 'splat' time.

              I'll entertain the "zombie" scenario for the fun of it, but don't expect me to spend tons of money on .22 LR guns built for killing fictional creatures. Yes, that's probably the best idea which I would also agree with. High ground very far from a highway with shelter which is not visible from afar. High powered long range rifle to take care of any incoming problems.

                              In all seriousness, I'd go to a grocery distribution warehouse. They are far more likely to be intact, see in as how everyone and their mom will be running for the storefronts. I'd fill up as much shelf stable food as I can and make my way down to the coast. I'd worry about what's down there when I got there. Maybe I could buy my way onto the cruiseship with my supplies.

                                Id head out to the shop, grab whatever I could and the camper and roll out to the middle of nowhere or the ex NIKE missle base that is privately held and offer security in trade for shelter. Its only a few miles away.
