There are different types of "building" when it comes to AR15's. If you buy a lower and an upper, you just put them together and click 2 pins, there is really no building involved. Assembling a lower can be done in about 20 minutes but you will need a hammer and punch. You can buy complete lowers if you want to avoid this, it's all up to you. But don't pay another $100-300 to have some guy clip pins together and slide a stock on it.

Generally yes, DSArms.com may be an exception, they are pretty reasonable on all their prices, but they are usually backordered quite a bit. You'll need patience with them. I believe PSA sells complete lowers for a reasonable price. The cheapest uppers on the planet are DSA, and they are decent quality. Redxarms.com has a little bit higher quality barrels, and they look a little nice for about the same price. They take about a week to ship, so quicker than DSA.

A complete lower is assembled, ready to go w/ stock.
A complete upper is assembled, ready to go with BCG/CH.

Put these together and you have a gun, basically.

redxarms has a complete rifle for $725, not bad.

Shop around, see what other manufacturers offer in that price range. You could pickup a used EOTech 512.A65 for $250 if you're patient and have a complete weapon w/ nice optics for under $1,000, whereas most other companies will have you at $1000 without a way to aim it.

If you buy a blemished lower for 70 dollars, and a lower build kit from Palmetto, a complete lower can be had for less than $150

You can buy and upper receiver with a free float rail, low pro gas block, and stainless barrel for $290 at red x arms. Add another 100 dollars or so for a bolt carrier group and charging handle and you have a functioning rifle minus optics.

I don't think that includes a buffer tube/stock does it? If it did you could buy one of the red x uppers w/ bcg/ch for $410, and you'd have a gun for $560 minus optics, for example. But honestly their complete rifle is probably a better deal if you liked it.

I edited my last post and added more. It's more like 160 plus shipping for a complete lower

A lot of the guys on the board have bought rifles from them with no issues. I tried to put a piston on their 7.5" and it gave me trouble, but they were nice enough to machine me a new barrel to my specs to make it work, free of charge. Overall they are a small outfit, but they sell a great product for a good price and are responsive to customers.

                      But seriously, here:
I was more referring to just a complete pile of junk. I knew your elitist ass would be in here sooner or later.

Red X makes good stuff. There's nothing more gratifying then building your own rifle though.

This is about the best deal on a stripped lower I can find. You're lucky just to find one in stock actually.

no offense but you do kind of come off as an elitist douche when you think everyone needs a 1000+$ AR
or that everyone needs AR features more in line with guys that want to run 10K rounds through their rifle.

Just curious.... is it the elite part or the douche part that makes you think like this? or the HK stroking in the dark?
                                gotta be one of those
not that i don't like HK's, but like everyone else - I also can't afford them and try to find balance of value foremost
