  • How do you guys catalog your unserialized weapons?

Pre-68 weapons were not required to be serialized, some of my older weapons have no serials. How do you guys deal with that? Do you serialize them yourself somewhere? Or just hope they don't end up getting stolen?

Yeah that's about the only idea I came up with.

You can also disassemble them and use an electric scribe to mark them in a concealed area.

That's what I was considering, taking it apart and serializing the back of the receiver or something.

That's the way mine is. It's just you're not going to get it back unless you literally find the gun yourself.

I fear everyday when I leave that someone will break into my house and take my babies. I cannot wait until I can afford a good safe and bolt it down.

I have heard the picture path works but unless your photos contain the serial number, you might as well be giving a description to a police sketch artist. Not sure how true this is but it makes sense in a way.

Should you create your own serial # or perhaps use a DL#? I know SSN would be best but then again...lol you don’t want that data floating around. What is a good number to use that no matter how long from now, it will still be tied to you and not lost over time?

I just keep shitloads of pictures, in digital format, in several locations.

Never worried about it honestly. But then again I don't recall having any guns without a number of some sort.

Without a number I have a feeling it would come down to a case of "he said she said", really no way to prove it's yours. Now if there was a hidden serial number, I think that would hold up.

I would say just engrave your DL in a hidden location, take a photo of where it is and keep it for your records. Honestly it is a good idea to do this to all of your expensive items (electronics, bikes, power tools)
