Last year I shot my 10mm delta from the driver seat of my jeep, that rang too, but went away after an hour or so, if that. Either I'm already deaf or I haven't experienced the loudness you guys have. Being inside an enclosure makes it 2x as worse though. If you're hunting in a field, a 16" or 20" AR15 isn't that loud at all, I've shot them many times with no ears out in a field. And 12 gauge's I never wear ears when hunting (who does?). I know that Nagant @ 3ft was loud as shit, and it would have been 2x as worse if it was an M44.
Ye gads, an m44 in an enclosed space. I fired mine under a 10x20 steel picnic cover with concrete floor at a friends place and it not only cleared everyone from under the cover, but was also unanimously voted of the picnic cover island lol. It was really uncomfortable even with my plugs in.

I was out at a party and we decided to shoot some clays, after 10-20 rounds of 12ga without hearing protection my ear still felt fine, but then I shot 3 rounds of some kind of .410 self defense ammo out of a snubnose judge. After that my right ear hurt and could hardly hear out of it. It was almost 2 weeks before my ear was back to normal.

lol oh yeah that's going to be much louder, gotta get that muzzle away from your face, longer the barrel, quieter the discharge.

A lot of times when I shoot I'm around gunfire for 8 plus hours. I got a set of the molded ones at a gun show. A little weird to have done, but I'm so glad that I did it though. They cost me 80 bucks, I had what they call filters installed in them so that I can hear range commands and speech with them in. If you don't need to hear that stuff, you can get them for about 20 bucks cheaper.

I did have one instance that kind of "talked" me into getting a good set of plugs. I went skeet shooting, probably shot 200 or so shells and when I was done, I couldn't hear out of my right ear. Just a very loud ringing. I guess that my plug wasn't fitting correctly. I noticed that it was ringing when I was shooting, but didn't think it was too bad. It took 2 days for my ear to stop ringing, and slowly through the week my hearing returned to normal.

So.... I think that my $80 pair of ear plugs have been a good investment.
I've considered those how do they work indoors?

I pulled 20, 3 in shells out of the Saiga one day, rapid fire, without my ear plugs. I knew right away I never wanted to do that again. Holy shit that thing is loud. I think it took around two or three days before I was back to normal.

I'm hoping you don't mean an AR-15 in the house, haha. Yes, if that's your concern a .22LR with a can, 9mm w/ 147gr bullets, or .45 would be safe to shoot indoors with a suppressor. It's gonna be loud, but it won't damage your hearing.

I got a pir of molded plugs from one of the gun show guys years ago. Have shot 22lr-50bmg with just them in loud but no pain no ringing. I've been known to double up with a pair of peltor tactical electric muffs at times also

How much did you paid for the molded plugs? I've seen them with several options for sale at the Market Hall show, from like $70 all the way up to $200.

The first time I went out to shoot my Nagant, I think it was my M44, I realized I forgot my hearing protection when I got out into the woods to shoot it. I went ahead and shot it anyways, which was stupid because it's pretty darn loud! My ear rang for a while but it went away.

I do always make sure to have the ears with us when my boys and I go shooting so their hearing doesn't get damaged. We have muffs for all of us plus I've got some foam plugs for myself, in case we take someone else with us who doesn't have their own ears.

I've been standing about 20 foot away from a M2A1 .50BMG heavy machinegun without hearing protection when it was firing, wasn't loud at all because of the conical muzzle brake, but the moment the muzzle turned within 180 degrees of me it became thunderous. It's amazing what a muzzle device can do.

That wasn't near as loud as I thought it would be, until it started turning toward us. Fun day.

Eh, I'm sure all of us have done a ND or come close anyways.

I put a hole in a wall and broke a mirror when I didn't clear my weapon once.

Never ever again. If you ever see me at a build party or range in the future, I will check the rifle...then check it again...and maybe 5 minutes later check it again to make sure someone didn't sabotage it!
