  • Taxidermist needed

Anyone know of any taxidermists in the Arlington/Mansfield that you would recommend? I shot an Axis last year and I keep forgetting it's in my freezer.

    TIA

Alpine Taxidermy. I just got my Axis back from them and would post a photo, but can't remember how. Quality work

The cape has been froze for over a year?

I dont know much about taxidermy, but id assume you want it tanned as fast as possible?

Mind if I ask how much they charged? I'll call them tomorrow morning.

Yeah, I shot it about this time last year..maybe in December so right at 1 year either way. I know I'm pushing my luck as is...hopefully it's salvagable.

I have a guy that's in Terrell so not exactly in your area, lol. IMO, he is one of the best. He's on the expensive side and it takes about a year to get back because he is so backed up but he does top notch work. He's done everything for us, from all the African animals including big cats down to whitetail. If your interested I'll pass along his details.

          Post pics of your Axis.

I'm headed to Alpine right now. From talking to them on the phone, he says it's more than likely freezer burned and not salvagable...depending on how it was wrapped.

I'm probably SOL but wish me luck...I'm not on the same lease anymore and the chances of me shooting another Axis are slim unless I pay for a highfence hunt (which I doubt I ever will). It's just a full hide but still, would look cool on a wall.

You just need a skin? I think I have a extra hide.

I paid just over $600 for a wall pedestal mount and had them tan the remainder of the hide, which is draped over my recliner (already have a whole hide draped over the couch)

Yeah, just the full skin. I hadn't thought about that. Hopefully mine is still good so I can actually say I shot "that one" but if not and if you have an extra, let me know and I'll probably take it off your hands.

I wasn't able to get any good pics. It got dark too soon after shooting it
