  • Anyone ever had trouble with the classifieds on THF?

So I am curious as to if it is just me or the people, the market...I don’t know

So there was a guy posting a .44 mag raging bull, he wanted $500 o.b.o I send him a PM offering $450 because I know that the .454 goes for $500-$600 from what I have seen. He replies back "$475 and I will consider" which I agree too due to the fact that it is $25. He then proceeds to post my offer on the public side in the ad asking for someone to come up with more...I felt this was a dick move but whatever, I want the gun.

Well, he gets all pissy when I cant meet him on the fly this past Saturday night (my wife’s b-day) and sells it on Tue morning before I could get to him. NP, but I felt like it was a bit of a dick move.

Then, I find a .357 I felt interested in, good price, so I PM the guy and ask him how long he had owned the gun (it appeared old) and how many rounds down the pipe. All legit questions to me but I guess not to him. He never replied and removed himself from the conversation.

Finally, today I see a Ruger GP-100 6'' .357 NIB for $475, I start to look at the pictures and notice a decent drag line around the cylinder. So instead of PM'ing, I asked in the ad: "Did you purchase this at the gun show (I was thinking a lot of people may have been dry firing it hence the drag line)? Is it NIB or LNIB as there is a drag line around the cylinder although I do see that according to your add, it is NIB."

    http://www.texashuntingforum.com/for...100_357#UNREAD

This is the PM he sent me:

Seriously?? I always post stuff on here as new and unfired just so jack holes like you will come on here and question it!!!! I would never do that to you or any one else on here and if i did have a question like that i would pm you. I don't lie when it comes to selling my firearms or anything else I post on here and have never had an issue with any one on here that I have sold something to or traded with.
Am I just coming across crazies or am I violating some rule that is not written in any of the forums rules? I don’t know but what the hell, I have money damnit and I want some guns and apparently, since I am not just all "oh noezzz bamma is takin ma guns, let me run out and pay asking price on everything" I cant buy any

Sorry for the rant but I am trying to find out what is going on and damnit, this is frustrating

Stuff like that is where the 100 posts minimum came from too many jackass's out there. Oh, and your questions seem legitimate to me.

Only had one problem. I had a 1911 for sale with a bunch of detailed photos. Guy in Dallas said he wanted it, so I drove from Waco to Dallas to meet him. He saw it and looked it over, then said "this isn't really what I am looking for".

Basically I drove for 3 hours round trip for no reason. That sucked.

It was as nice as I could make it without getting on his level...I mean, how can you be selling something and not expect questions.

His reaction alone makes me think, now, that it is not as advertised...stupid

You know, I was actually starting to think it was me...I mean, most of the time it is but come on

Gun owners and enthusiasts are a weird bunch of people. A large majority of them are very suspicious of people and abstract questions. Although I think a lot of your questions are completely relevant, it seems you're trying to get a bargain on a particular gun. I would caution you on how you approach deals that are really good. Ask too many questions and you're the guy that doesn't get a response. If I get 10 messages on an item, and 6 of them are asking questions about cylinder marks or scratches, and 3 of them are asking if I can come down on price, the 1 guy that says "Where can we meet up." is going to be the only one that gets a reply. Just remember - you're always going to see the gun in person, and that's the best time to see if you can get him to make a concession - but only if he has misrepresented the item. Whenever I see a good deal, and I know it's a good deal, I'm always the one that has cash in hand waiting for a time and place to meet. More often than not it will work. If you're buying a gun for a premium or a going rate, that's the time to ask questions.

                      Lol, passive aggressive I belive...

Like a little girl or something...

"Well my apologies if I was wrong but it felt like it to me. I would not post something on here and say it was unfired if it was not unfired or say it was NIB if it was not.

Mods if you want to close the thread I understand. If not I will just keep the gun since the cylinder has been turned.
LOL aka, I am going to take my toy somewhere else where I will get what I want...

Anyways, thanks again for the reassurance, I was hoping it wasn’t me this time....lol

Just like the stock market, always a gamble

I see it as in the end, my money is not hurting to stay in the wallet.
But CJ, this is what I was concluding in my experience, especially in times of urgency as it seems so many people are in right now.

$475 is a good deal I assume, never owned or bought a GP-100

Though I was eyeing that .500 you just picked up the other day, just got to it first damnit

Just a few tips I've learned to get good deals. The better the deal, the less likely you'll get it if you ask a lot of questions. Some of the best deals I've gotten were on weapons that had no pictures a shitty description and weird shitty e-mails.

in forums where you become 'reputable' because of post counts just go find the jokes and politics and do some 'lol's and 'aint that the truth' posts and magically you become somebody
