  • Ruger P95DC

I recently aquired a Ruger P95DC 9mm for home defense use. Gun was given by a family member, so it was free. My only experience with handguns has been a Springfield XD45 that I shot at a range. The Ruger did not come with a magazine. So 2 main questions:

    1) Anyone have any experience with this gun? I see reviews look fairly positive upon a Google search.

    2) Is CTD the place to go for a magazine and is it necessary to buy the manufacturers part(i.e. a Ruger brand magazine) for best results?

Thanks for any input on the above. I am obviously going to use it because it was free of charge and it looks like it is in great shape....

It's a tank, one of the most accurate pistols I ever owned. I was shocked. Sold it about 10 years ago, still in good shape with the current owner.

I had one as my first pistol and I really liked it. They are easy as hell to shoot, easy to field strip and pretty damned accurate out of the box. I never had any issues with mine either. Good light shooter.

I use one as my carry/truck gun. It's big and if I run out of ammo, I can beat someone with it.

Does this mean that it will use any brand ammo successfully? Or is it in any way a finicky gun about which type ammo it uses?

By the way, accuracy is how straight it shoots, reliability would be about not functioning. Reliability was great.

I owned a few of these. Watch for the recoil spring retainer, they will sometimes break and cause the gun to not function properly. Other than that both my 95DC shot well. I did eventually upgrade both to a xd and a Beretta 92FS.

They're pretty reliable. I owned one about 10 years ago, and it worked fine. It digested every round I ever fed it.

                    Loved my p95.

Ugly as hell but they work.

I've got a p95, the only thing it didn't like was a Pro-mag brand mag. Wouldn't cycle to the 2nd round. Other than that, it's a meat n potatoes gun - click, bang, click, bang.

Cheaper Than Dirt! is America's Ultimate Shooting Sports Discounter, and we live up to that title. Expect bulk ammo deals, discount firearms, parts to build your next gun and more.

I have a P95, and I really enjoy it. At just less than 10 yards it can tear the center out of a target. I have two of the ruger 15rd mags and the springs are seriously stiff. I have taken them apart and bent both springs and the last few rounds are still tough to get in. Before I did that the loader was necessary though. The thing is tough, easy to strip and clean and pretty accurate with good ammo.

I'm anti-CTD, but pro Ruger. I would stick to Ruger brand mags.

great pistol. i bought one back in 96 when they came out. never had a FTF or FTE, it ate anything. then someone broke into my truck and stole it. so yes its a good reliable gun until someone steals it.

                            god bless.

Great guns, especially for a beginner.
