  • GLOCK (compact 23) VS. Springfield (xd compact .40)

I have owned a glock and springfield and think they both are reliable enough to keep as a solid home defense weapon..

I have had a g-27 and my current sub-c xd40 is pretty nice. But to me they are too big to carry imo..

for a car/home gun i like the g-23 and the xd compact (in my budget and reliable)..

Who has experience with both? This would be my truck gun and my at home go to gun as well..

I like the way both feel in my hand! In my hand, the glock seemed a bit more accurate/but the xd seemed more comfortable and i liked the 1911 type safety.. I guess im just weighing out the differences.. which one do you like and why?

Both are solid guns, with the durability/reliability going to the Glock by a narrow margin (as long as you don't get a "bad" one from the extractor fiasco). There is nothing wrong with the XD and they can be had CHEAP. Are you referring to the XD Service model?

im assuming it's just the standard "xd-40 subcompact" I bought it new at B&S guns in Garland (reasonable prices with WAY BETTER Customer Service than Bullet Trap IMO) It doesnt say anything about service model on my xd..

The sub-compact is closer in size to the glock 27, and between those two guns, i much prefer the Glock. Who did you deal with at the Bullet Trap? I've dealt with them extensively and have had a pretty good overall experience. Who knows about pricing. Last time I was in B&S it was highway robbery on everything, so maybe they pulled their heads out of their asses.

I think mine was 499.. wasnt a steal nor was it a score.. I had already owned a glock(27) and had traded up and ended with a colt .45 but i really had wanted another .40 again and after all the debates over the 2 brands i figured i would try the other one out too..

Man I'm not 100% on the name of the guy i dealt with (even bought my first pistol there... it was a bersa thunder .45 and he acted PUT OUT for having to draw the paperwork) .. middle aged guy.. buy either way i just felt better with the gentleman from b&s as i made him set a few subcompacts side by side and let me play with all of them..

Very cool man! B&S seemed like it could be a cool enough shop, but the couple of times I'd been I didn't have particularly good experiences. I generally just head out to Schramm if I'm out that way.

It's a better gun . That being said if you want that 13 rd capacity he could get a p30 in .40 caliber.

Palmetto State Armory had the SA XD's on a one day sale (ended yesterday) for $359. Not a bad price but you have to deal with an FFL transfer and I can't remember if the shipping was free or not. I know Cheaper Than Dirt has sometimes had them pretty cheap, like around $350-400 for the XD Essentials.
