  • .22 Trainer for IPSC/IDPA

I tried a mosquito, and that thing was a piece of shit.

It looks like it's going to end up being a 1911 with an advantage arms kit, or a glock with a tac sol kit.

Does anyone have any experience with these kits? I wonder what the cheapest way to get into a dedicated 1911 frame for the kit would be.

    Ruger's .22/45 is nice. It's basically their MkII/MkIII with a 1911 handle.

I already have a top notch Buckmark. They don't feel like shooting a "regular" gun, they don't point like a regular gun and you don't have ANY holster options that aren't "Uncle Mike's Canvas thingie # 18"

Even in steel challenge, they shoot the rimfire guns from Low-ready.

        They're still totally different guns.

The tac sol glock kit is very nice, I've shot a few and even with a can they are feather light. I'm partial to a ruger mk2/3. However, they are a mfer to clean. Imho none will outshoot an mk2, but If cleaning concerns you there are alternatives.

I dont know if you're looking for a .22 1911 for training or what, but Kimber offers a 1911 .22, but obviously expensive.

GSG also offers a 1911 in .22 for like $300.

I've been looking at those GSGs. That may be what I end up with.

Yale, there are no holster options for the Ruger 22/45, and it still feels like a "target" .22.

The gsg is what i would get( well i actually want one, but its low on my to buy list) Or pony up the big bucks for a dedicated kimber.

The slide conversion kimber offers are shit imho. Jamomatics, but the guns run good.

Just out of curiosity I looked them up, and the Kimber .22 MSRP for just over $800 to just over $1100, and their conversion kits are $300. Way too much for a .22.

Why does caliber change the value of a gun to you? The caliber has no effect on the quality of the gun.

Why not just train with a 9mm? A lot of practical shooting is about getting back on target. The .22 has barely any recoil so you're not gonna get practice on managing the recoil to get to the next target. A 9mm will be closer to a real competition gun.

Look at the GSG. It's a little bit more expensive, but I've held both and the GSG is a LOT nicer.
