I would buy the STI over the Springfield.

Yeah, I suppose it would suck for some ninja's family suing you for carrying a "more lethal" weapon when in reality it was meant to be more reliable so said Ninja didn't kill you.

      Stupid rules.

midway has a 5 stage hornady press on sale for $395 right now...but it's backordered till January.

Other than being brand loyal, why would you choose the STI over the Springfield? Are there quality issues with the Springfield like so many complain about the Kimber? I'm not brand loyal and I'd certainly rather give my business to a local Texas company but I'd want to do it for a better reason than simply it's an STI.

That being said, I heard they sell a low end model that's made in the Philippines that's pretty much a steaming pile of dog shit. Why would they put there name on it?

It sucks but that's the world we live in where anyone will try to sue someone else for money even if they are in the wrong. Better to reduce the liability.

There is nothing wrong with the spartan, but it is a $600 gun. Its built with all STIparts on armscor slides and frames, then they are inspected in georgetown. They run great and are generally great guns.

STI vs Springfield is preference. My preference is towards a company who does a ton to support shooting sports, who is built in TX with u.s. made parts.
The Springfield is a great gun, built from imported parts.

Either gun will be high quality, well fitted, with the edge going to STI.

Does anyone locally sell STI or do you buy from them direct? The Spartan III looks like it might be a better option for a carry 1911 under $1000.

If memory serves, they have a dealer locator on their site. There are a handful of dealers around the metroplex.

Thanks for the opinion. I'll have to check into them. What model do you have? And who sells them locally?
