Advice on rail 1911's with prices

I have been getting into practical shooting competitions for about the last 3 months and done 7 events now. I really want to shoot a 1911 and have my 45 and my double stack 9mm versions. I have also seen several others shooting them and I have yet to see one function without problems, including mine. Even the guy with an NICE STI has had several issues.

Given this is a duty weapon and your life will depend on it, if I were you I would stick with the glock. I hated to finally buy one (now two) but they just work and they are lighter and carry more rounds. Why you would want to carry something heavier, less reliable and carries less rounds doesn't make sense unless you just never plan on using it since you will be in a "nicer town".

Just my $0.02.

There sure are a lot of double stack 1911's in the winners circle for them to not be very reliable.

That has absolutely nothing to do with the thread, and is not at all what the O.P. asked about. Before you start running your head about how other people said it first, I'd bet that they have more than 200 rounds through whatever they recommended.

Oh, and I've had an XD45 since they came out, and it has thousands of flawless rounds. You however don't, so your opinion doesn't carry much weight.

Have you looked at the M&P in .45? You can pick these up for around 450 shipped from buds. With the LE prices on a glock or M&P, you could pick up 2 identical guns and support gear for less than the price of say a Springfield TRP. More capacity, less maintenance, etc.

surefire also just came out with the x300 Ultra which is 500 lumens now....

If you are carrying it as a duty weapon that means it has to work 100% of the time. I like 1911s a lot but they can be finicky. I would stick with the Glock.

I had 2000 rounds through an already used xd40 and it ran perfect. I have two friends with xd45s, one that probably has tens of thousands through his with no issue. Tanner even said xd was an option....

You do realize that you're the guy who loved his sigma, then accidentally stumbled into a solid XD40 only to hurry and sell it to get a Shitadel 1911. There is no chance in hell that you ran 2000 rounds through that XD.

lol. You are dead wrong. I can show you receipts for the ammo. I thought my sd did its job fine. It wasn't the best firearm. I traded my sd for an xd because I wanted something nicer and had shot a bunch of different xd's. I bought my shitadel as a second gun, and something to play around with. I sold my xd only because the citadel was broken and I needed some money to pay for the bike. I loved and still love that xd. I'll own another soon.

Shoot a few hundred rounds through it of actual defense rounds (not round nose) and then give us a report. Until you've done that don't even assume you'll be able to make it reliable.
