The Armscor built gun is the Spartan. The Trojan III is the one with the weird almost decocker safety deal.

There is no Trojan III, afaik. The ranger III has the cock-on-disengage-safety

It's a thought. I love 1911's and would love to carry one. But I might stick with this 31 or even go with my old glock 35 I used on swat. Love that gun... I haven't had the chance to try out the M&P pistols tho. My swat rifle was a M&P15T and I loved the rifle. Heck, I even considered a XD. Another fine weapon. But, ill probably just go with the 1911. I got 6 months to decide.

We carried SIG 226 .357 for my first 8 years at the department and that gun shot like a dream. So they decided for the good of the department to switch to M&P 40's because some officers have smaller hands or whatever. Ninety percent of my department can not stand these guns. Oh and guess what? The people that couldn't shoot the SIG have just as many problems with the M&P if not more. It is a decent gun but I liked the SIG a lot more.

My friend went to another department where they got to choose their own gun. He swore up and down a 1911 was the finest gun on the planet and he has been around firearms a while(30 years). He bought a Colt 1911 and had all kinds of hell with it. It went back to Colt at least twice and they finally got it fixed. He is back in a SIG now and will not go back.

If you are carrying it as a duty weapon that means it has to work 100% of the time. I like 1911s a lot but they can be finicky. I would stick with the Glock.

The operator is damn nice, but will hurt the hell out of your fingers when fired with duty rounds. That front strap checkering is no freaking joke.

STI hands down, unless you can afford SVI, in which case why are you even asking?

Lucky for him, he has 6 months. So if he orders today, he can have his shiny new $4000 100% custom and Texas made gun in his hands by the time the 6 months is up.

You must have sensitive hands if front strap checkering hurts them. What ammo are you shooting that is so drastic from the range ammo?

They were just Winchester Ranger hollow points... but the checkering was so freaking sharp it would make my fingers bleed. I had two other friends shoot it to confirm, and they felt the same way. I put a piece of grip tape over the checkering and it was perfect.

You have labia skin for hands, if grip checkering made them bleed.

I have been getting into practical shooting competitions for about the last 3 months and done 7 events now. I really want to shoot a 1911 and have my 45 and my double stack 9mm versions. I have also seen several others shooting them and I have yet to see one function without problems, including mine. Even the guy with an NICE STI has had several issues.

Given this is a duty weapon and your life will depend on it, if I were you I would stick with the glock. I hated to finally buy one (now two) but they just work and they are lighter and carry more rounds. Why you would want to carry something heavier, less reliable and carries less rounds doesn't make sense unless you just never plan on using it since you will be in a "nicer town".

                          Just my $0.02.
