Glock 34 Competition or XDM 5.25"....?

Gen 3 or 4 on the glock. I like the feel of the Gen 4 a little better but reading all the problems about using cheap ammo and needing lighter springs and breaking ejectors....the Gen 3 seems the smarter buy of the two.

Still leaning toward the XDm....just have to find it.

Gen 3s are having just as many problems as the Gen 4s right now...from the interweb chatter, it's almost the luck of the draw as to whether or not you get a solid running gun or one that stovepipes or beans you in the face with cases

Seems like the recoil spring didn't help the ejection/extraction issues but all signs point towards the new extractor design Glock has been using. Apex is supposed to come out with their "fix" sometime this month though

In a little bit late on this thread. But I run a gen 3 34 for my competition gun. I have NEVER had a malfunction with it during a match. The only FTE I had was when I was working down my "powder puff" loads. So that was expected. But with factory powered reloads, I've never had an issue. I've changed out some springs, added sights, added a magwell and never looked back. When the new xdm5.?? came out I was like damn, what a blatant (sp) copy of the 34. If you can't beat em, join em I guess. Anyways, here is a pic of mine. Any questions with it let me know.

Never bothered asking for trade in value but given the prices they had on the used stuff in the case, I imagined it wasn't going to be much. I just priced the 220 to make it go quick and it did. Less than 1 hour for contact and gone in 23 hours cash in hand. I paid $399 for it when I bought it so I was out nothing.

on the trade in stuff....wife found a pretty clean used 229 Equinox .40cal in the case for $650 and snapped it up. It's pretty and she wanted it and I don't think she will lose money on it. I went ahead and ordered the short reset triggers for our 228, 229 and the 220 elite I still have after trying a new 226 in the case. to be honest, I have been spending money on gun stuff like a mad man this week. Just returned home with 2000 rnds of pistol ammo, ordered 5 wilson mags for my 1911 and 3 10rd mags for my 220....and I still need to go pick up the Glock tomorrow as part of "Glock Days" for all the free glock swag.


Feels like a NICE early Xmas. I am actually exhausted from playing with guns and I am still going to the range Friday, Saturday with the Step Son to play with rifles and then a competition on Sunday with the Wife. and I thought I was busy with racing!?!

May have to do that. First questions would be which sights are those and where did you find the mag well? Do you have to add extensions to the mags with that?

That is a Dawson ICE Heavy magwell, and the sights are also Dawson Precision. I did add a 2 round extension to each of my mags. I don't think that you have to, but in a competition it would really slow you down and kind of defeat the purpose of having the magwell if you just used standard sized mags.

And if all you want is plus 2's I'd be willing to sell you mine cheaper than you can buy new. But I'd recommend buying the plus 4 or 5's. That's what I'd like to upgrade to.

update....

so 3 trips to the range since picking up the gun Friday morning....and about 450-500 rounds through including the competition today with the new Gen 4 G34. one failure to eject in about 2nd magazine worth. Flawless since. After cleaning it the first time, the extractor seemed a little gummed up with factory crap. Cleaned it, oiled it and works great. Didn't blow up in my face and shot decent with it...which for me is doing pretty good.

Overall, no buyer remorse....however, I let the wife shoot it to compare to what she used at the competition today and now she wants one. Ugh. Might go from no Glocks to two Glocks in less than 5 days. ugh.

Nothing wrong with that man, lol. And I shot mine in a 3gun today. Man, it really is nice for the pistol part of that to be a non issue in the back of my head. I've honestly never even had a snag that I can remember with that gun that wasn't my fault. I love my 34, and I'm sure you will too. Expect the same level of reliability that you already have for a long time.
