    do .22s not have a primer in the shell?

    i found a few bullets mixed in with some of my grandparents old stuff and they dont have them..

    They do, but it's rimfire, so just the striking of the rim of the brass results in the ignition and subsequent explosion.

      The priming compound is in the rim of the case, and not a pressed in primer. Difference between Rimfire-.22 and Centerfire-pressed in primer clearly visible in the bottom of the case...
