Not sure who's been watching the skeet and trap shooting in the Olympics but noticed a lot of the shooters seems to have a raised vented/ribbed piece on top of the barrel where the sight sits. What's the purpose of the taller piece over your traditional shotgun?

Originally posted by CJ View PostIt's called point aiming. It helps you get better acquainted with fast target acquisition. When they use a raised rib like that generally it has a red dot for a front sight. It allows them to see more peripherally. Some of the most advanced shooters don't even aim the weapon, they just point it.

I can low fire clays within about 60 feet or so, but outside of that i can't hit shit. I primarily shoot full choke so i use a twin bead barrel for accuracy. I find it to suit my hunting style the best. I let my friends get the low flyers and close birds, and i focus on the high and far birds. I find it really challenging. Nothing like falling a dove from 100+ yards away. The disadvantage is i can't shoot close birds because they explode."If I asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses." - Henry Ford

I have a friend that's been practicing instinctive shooting with a pistol and I was pretty surprised at how good he's gotten at it. With a pistol, as long as you're using the same gun or one with the same grip angle, you get a sense for where your hand is pointing it.
I would imagine with a rifle or a shotgun it's harder since you have two hands involved and it's not as simple as pointing your finger.Atlantic Blue '00 - '03 Cobra motor and TKO600, solid axle, full MM suspension
