I use one of the smalleR maxpedition versipacks. Holds a gun, some wipes, and a few diapers. I really only carry it when I am taking him on a walk in the evening and it is just my son and I, most other times I have my iwb holster on since my wife has most of the baby stuff when we are all together. The only time I have an actual diaper bag with me is if we are gone for several hours and even then it pretty much stays in my truck due to the bulk of it.

Keep your weapon on your person. Fuck putting them in a bag. Carry one way and practice drawing.

Congrats on the baby girl on the way! I have a 21 month old daughter and expecting a baby boy next month. Being the daddy of a cute baby girl is the best man.

With that said, I don't feel comfortable unless my gun is on my hip or in my pocket. Carry the diaper bag regardless of how girly it looks. Chances are if you're carrying it you'll also be carrying that cute baby girl. Now you've become the cool dad carrying a pink diaper bag and a baby girl dressed in pink with a gigantic pink bow on her head. Everybody loves that guy so don't feel bad. ;-)

Put the gun in a holster on YOU.

You WILL put the diaper bag down and you or your wife will dump stuff out of the bag looking for something. You wont believe the crap that ends up in a diaper bag (trash, used boogie wipes, old gram crackers, toys, etc) Do you really want a gun in there?

To add to your preparation, go ahead and plant a bunch of cacti outside her window, set up the surveilance video, then plant a baby monitor outside the window as well with the receiver in your room.

This will all come into play when she's about 13 but I'd get started now so that cactus will spread.

Oh, and I wouldn't worry about using one of those bags for a diaper bag. Would someone think you might have a gun...maybe. But for the most part, you'll have some empty bottles and other baby stuff in some of the external pockets that will add to the diaper bag use.

I used something similar to this for a diaper bag when my little boy was born... It got a lot of attention from the ladies when they saw me pull baby stuff from it.

This. When you are carrying a little girl, it doenst make much difference if you have a tac bag or a standard diaper bag. And you wont care.

My wife bought a seperate, more "masculine" bag so that I wouldnt look like a sissy, we have taken the time to swap everything over ONCE. It just doenst make much difference.

And yes, we are getting old.

Another thing Keith. If you have her with you, you'd want to protect her hearing, so use a rock or bat instead of the 45, if possible. Other gun owners appreciate your consideration.

                        I'm only partially kidding.

IMO with all the crazy stuff going on in todays world people will look at you like you may be the next mass shooter. I would just score a back packof somesort that is what worked best with my daughter you could throw it over your shoulder and go and no one looks at you any different.

I did not read the other posts, so forgive me if I'm repeating.

                            1. Watch gun looking bags. It'll just be weird overall and may make it known.

                            2. Whatever bag you get, realize it'll get disorganized quicker than you'd imagine. It maybe worst for us since we have twins....but it still applies.

                            3. Recommend NOT putting it in diaper bags really. Kids get into diaper bags on their own after awhile and it's not something (at least we don't) you want to overly discourage. IF they are doing a good job of getting their own snacks, bringing you a diaper/stuff for diaper changes, toys...whatever. They'll be right in there with the weapon. This is the primary reason my wife is not toting an LCP right now. They get into her purse/diaper bag and too difficult to carry on person when she's carrying/dealing with 2 little ones. In your situation you may prefer to make diaper bag/purse off limits and that's fine too. We just like them taking care of themselves and being as self sufficient as possible.

                            4. Whatever you choose, haul it proud. My wife's is not overly girly - but it's not manly. I'll tote that thing around and I dare anyone to say anything. It's just not a concern of mine and you'll probably get it better here in a bit. It's for your child.

Here is the bag I carried for years when my daughter was born:

                              [ame]http://www.amazon.com/Rugged-Kecci-Voyager-Daddybag-Backpack/dp/B000YFNZLC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1343398411&sr=8-1&keywords=kecci+daddybag[/ame]

Now I never carried a gun, so I don't know about that part. But I did love that bag. Forget all the lame ass reviews from the people complaining about the bag being too large and too heavy. I literally carried that thing for 3 to 4 years and LOVED it. Just an option.....

Have you considered sewing a holster into a less girly bag?
