  • Benelli Nova

I am looking to pick up a shotgun to shoot skeet with and I like the Benelli Nova. Looking for people's opinions on them and if anyone knows of a good deal for one, the best I saw was $399 at Academy, I looked around on a few gun sights and that seemed pretty good.

Also I would like to have a 26-28" barrel for skeet and then be able to switch to 18" for home defense. I saw lots of options for swapping barrels on Remington 870's and Mossbergs but not many for the Benelli. Are they out there and I'm just not looking in the right places?

    Thanks guys

Give me a good 870 over any other under 500.00 shotgun.

I don't know much about shotguns but the Benelli felt much smoother than the 870, plus I've heard great things about them from everyone I've talked to. Any particular reasons for your opinion, just trying to get as much info in front of me as I can.

The nova is a great shotgun by most accounts, including mine. I wouldn't touch a new 870 unless you paid me.

I have had my Benelli Nova for just over five years now and love it, no problems at all. I have shot skeet, doves and one hog with it, and you can shoot 3 1/2" shells with the Nova. Carlson's make extra barrels for them, midway usa for one carries them. I only paid 279.00 for mine so they have gone up in price but well worth it.

Are the new ones made cheaper than the old ones or have lots of problems?

              They're cheaper, and it shows.

The Nova is a great gun and I've shot one for a little while. The biggest problem I had is the pump grip was a little uncomfortable after 100 shots. The plastic seemed a bit, sharp and made my hands a little sore. Other than that, it seemed fine. IMHO, in that arena - it's about cost vs preference. I prefer my 870 still, but that does not mean anything.

All of the new remington/marlin stuff is declining in quality and increasing in cost.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy an older wingmaster, but the nova is a slick gun.

Well my birthday is coming up this weekend so I think I'll get the Nova as a gift for myself, I always pick out the best gifts, yay self! LOL! I also just think I'll pick up some cheapo shotgun for home defense and just use the nova as a skeet/hunting gun.

I know not cheap, but I'd consider an o/u if I were you. They are a lot of fun.

I had the opportunity to fire a Yildiz over/under last week. Seemed like a solid gun except the fact that switching barrels was the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Pretty much renders the shotgun useless.

Their decent for their price but I saw a few that loosened up after a lot of rounds on the skeet and trap fields.

They don't auto eject the shells either right?

                              They eject on break open.
