  • Car carry? Non chl holder.

So the wife is taking a trip to Florida to see her family without me. I can't get off from work. I know it's legal to carry in car concealed in tx, but what about la, ms,and al? I want her to take my .38, but she is worried about the legality of having the gun in the car crossing state lines. She has no problem having the gun in the car in tx, just not sure about the other states. Just wondering if anybody knows the rules in a situation like this.

You're going to trust your wife's safety and not getting arrested based on what the fine legal advice is from these asshats?

No I'm gonna give the gun to her mom who is also going and doesn't care. I'm just curious as to what the actual laws are. My wife has no problem with having a gun, she is just very Leary of getting into trouble for having it. If I can show her it's all good, just better for me.

Regardless of the law, have her carry in the car all the way there. If nothing happens no biggie, if she gets car jacked and shoots the guy in the forehead, deal with it after the fact.

That's the way I feel about it. And lucky for me so does my mother in law.

The thing is law enforcement won't even give a straight answer for that. I belive legally it has to be unloaded and the gun and ammo can not be together ie gun in trunk ammo in glove box.

Not in texas, but that is true in some other states. You need to google it and do your homework. In some states the pistol has to be visible, in some states it has to be concealed, in some states the magazine cannot be in the gun, and in some states it the ammo has to be out of reach of the driver, and in others both the gun and ammo have to be out of reach.

Who ever is in control of the vehicle needs to maintain control of the pistol... in TX. As others have said, each state require state specific compliance.

I know this is slightly off topic but without a chl can I still carry a pistol in my saddle bag on the bike? Is it the same as a glove box it would just be to work and back and at work it would be in my tool box so it wouldn't be left where it could be stolen.
