In that vein, keep in mind that it's only illegal to enter a building with one. You can walk around outside on campus all day long. Every crime bulletin I saw detailed an attack outside, usually in the parking lot, or on the way to it or from it.

My biggest concern was never having one inside, but having had one inside prior to using it outside. It won't take an imaginative prosecutor to make your life miserable from there.


Another thought, some(most?) campuses will provide an escort to anyone if you call and request one. I insisted on an ex-girlfriend doing that when she was there late. That didn't end well for me, though. The tramp ditched me for the cop who was escorting her.

i was thinking of getting a taser too for the wife. though shes probably gonna go the CHL route regardless....

so should you get the shooting ones ? or no because it seems like if you miss youre fucked ?

I always steered people towards a firearm instead of a taser when I worked at Academy. The cost of the replacement projectiles for the tasers are outrageous! That alone usually convinced people to look into pistol purchase, handgun training, and eventually a CHL class.

There is also the problem if you miss. How fast can you reload a cartridge? Miss with a firearm you have the next shot as fast as you can pull the trigger....

I never got to pepper spray anyone, outside of training.
I did get to use my taser some, and it worked great.

But, I agree, I'd trust my wife with pepper spray if I had to choose one.

Not yet, but i'm itching to see it in action! It sounds hairy and I wouldn't want to get zapped by it. She will start carrying her 9mm soon instead of the tazer when she walks the pup. She's a new CHL'er so not real confident on carrying everywhere yet. I even had a TacPro trainer workn with her for 8 hours after she took the class and she's actually a good shot.

That's the one I bought.....$60 is cheap enough and it seems to hold a charge for quite a while...over 2 months.
