More similar story is that he sold his 1979 Trans Am around the same time then in like '98 the guy called him saying he was gonna sell it and wanted to know if my dad wanted it back, my dad asked how much and he was asking like $7,000 more than he bought it for. It was just a basic TA with too many miles to be considered a collectible. My dad just laughed and told him good luck.
Great story, must have been like Christmas getting your rifle back after all those years.

Typically if I buy something from someone and I make the statement "if you ever want to buy it back i'll sell it back to you" I don't go looking to make money off the person. That's a dick move in my opinion. Free storage? You're kidding right forrest? Maybe my level of douchebaggery needs to be raised a few notches.

You gotta understand the difference in the value of money over the years. If it's like a 10-15% difference, that would sound about right. What's he asking compared to the average price of a used similar gun?

Did you make that statement to you? Did he say he'd "sell it back to you" or "sell it back to you for the same price.." Pretty damn big difference.

              well this is certainly interesting.

You're bitching because your Dad sold a rifle for what it was worth, back in the day.

Now, the rifle is worth more and you're bitching because the present owner wants more.

You're bitching because you believe you're entitled to this rifle at a lower value than what the present owner wants for it.

So you're all about anti-capitalism, entitlement and consolation.

              All this over a GUN.

I don't think I'm the only one that sees the liberal irony here, am I?

I, too, may be coming to the conclusion that 99% of the world's population is worthless.

No shit, and all without knowing what the value of the gun in question may be.

If the guy is asking over the going price of the rifle, he's a douche. If he doesn't want to sell, but is trying to make it look like he's willing by high balling, he's a douche and should just say he wants to keep it.

If he's asking going rate, then he's entitled, but all this 'storage fee' bullshit is gay. He had the rifle for 10 years, and the expectations are that he used it, and got value for the gun. He didn't wrap the thing in cashmere and lock it in a bank vault.

Lots of name calling and supposition is all I see. You don't have a fucking clue about the value of the item in question, you're just jumping on the train.

Did the guy say "Hey, I'll sell this back to you if you ever want it back."? Probably not. That's a statement that I will make for a friend, but anyone else can take a hike. You sell something, and it's gone. You should be happy the guy still has it, and that it isn't a distant memory. If it's that important, buy it or shut the fuck up. Is it okay for you to think the guy's an asshole for trying to screw you? Sure. Is he well within reason to ask a higher price than he paid for it 10 years ago, because that is the value that he perceives it to be? Sure.

Put yourself in his shoes and think about the situation. If you didn't really want to sell, but someone REALLY wanted something you've got. Wouldn't you try to make it worth your while to get rid of it?

you must have quoted the wrong post. I just restated the facts.

And I do have a fucking clue that if you pull the trigger on this thing and it goes boom, you can bet your ass that it's worth more now than it was 10 years ago.

The real value if the Rifle is irrelevant...
Fatass wants a rifle that is owned by somebody else, how bad does he wanted.

Simple supply and demand. He has, you want it. Pay what he's asking or let it go. Is it fucked up that he wants market value for it? Not at all. Is it fucked up that perhaps he got a good deal on it at the time? Not at all. Is it fucked up that he won't sell it back to you for closer to what he payed your dad for it after he said he would? Perhaps.
