Any gun will get some attention. but as to the op yes the m&p series is a great gun.

Less reliable than the XD(m) or the Glock, but they feel good, and shoot well. Some people just can't deal with the hinged trigger.

I want a fullsize 9mm plastic gun, and I know the XDM is better, but part of me still wants an M&P.

Why do you say it's less reliable?

As far as caliber, pick what you can shoot consistently and accurately. Go to a range that will rent them to you to give a go at with.

As far as brand. I am a big fan of the XD. I have 2 of their full size 5", 9mm and 1 of the 9mm subcompact.

I have heard a lot of good things of the M&Ps. The Magpul guys run them in their Dynamic Handgun and the put them through paces that you may never as a indoor gun range shooter. I do like the option of having an extended and threaded barrel from the factory. If I had known I was going to get into suppressors I would have gone the M&P route vs the XD; I am still waiting on my barrels from Barsto (16 weeks later).

In short, if you are getting a home defense and a plinker you can't go wrong with either a Glock, XD or the M&P; personal choice. Same goes for caliber.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

The Magpul guys only ran them when they were being paid to run them. Now they run Nighthawk 1911s. Next week, they'll run glocks.

They have more problems than Glocks or XDs. Most notably, the extraction problems.

My whole point was that they run them through some tough paces.

Not a matter of weak just comfort. For me my MP 45 and Sig 2022 are too big to be comfortable and not print. Maybe with a winter jacket but with t-shirt and jean weather here I carry my 380.
