Pretty sure my Mosin 91/30 has a safety, albeit not practical to use due to the difficulty in engaging/disengaging. I don't keep it chambered, though, so use of the safety is really not necessary.

Yeah, on mine you pull the back of the bolt. twist it counter clock wise and it hooks on the flat area on the left. Of course on mine, that spring is pretty stiff like it's never been used.

That spring stiffness is what I was referring to with the difficulty of use.

That spring is the firing pin spring. Essentially you are locking the firing pin back. The fire control on the Mosin is about as simple as you can make a rifle lol.
