    14.9mm SOP Rifle & Cartridge.

    The 14.9mm SOP is an incredible extra long range rifle project that a number of people at Snipers Hide have been collaborating on.
    The huge rifle fires a very long and heavy projectile with a high ballistic coefficient giving it extreme accuracy.
    It has 0.5 MOA accuracy at 3000 yards and remains supersonic out to 5400 yards (5 kilometers).

    The 14.9mm SOP cartridge case is formed from a 20mm Vulcan case. The 1,690 grain projectile leaves the muzzle at 3,350 fps with 42,104 ft/lbs of energy (that is not a typo!).
    This is almost twice the muzzle energy of the 14.5×114mm Russian and 14.5mm JDJ.
    It has more kinetic energy at the muzzle than a 20mm Vulcan, and far more kinetic energy downrange, although the Vulcan is carrying an explosive payload (chemical energy).

    Damn! I'm sure throat erosion will be a big problem with this rifle. Hope barrel changes are easy...

            I heard that Gunsmoke in Colorado had the original idea and the bearded fat guy threaded that barrel. His long necked big tittied daughter sourced out the DPMS grip.

              And don't forget one of the other gunsmiths said it wouldn't work...

              The amount of energy that thing has is retarded, I can't even imagine what kind of tissue damage would be done by it.

                        Throat erosion is caused by the hot gases of the burning powder melting away lands. Essentially it is caused by cartridges that are greatly overbore.

                            Okay, so not to change your words but to make sure I understand this:

                            Cartridges that are WAY overbore (which I assume is a standard size??) melt the lands (the rifling in the barrel right?) due to the heat produced by the reaction? Sorry but when it comes to me learning stuff, I ask almost every question twice, sorry for that.
