I remember when we had a cannon. But it used a 1 pound charge and then another pound to bust the round on impact.

I don't think that would be a good idea, smokeless powder in something like this would go off like a grenade. It probably uses black powder.

Take me to school, what is difference of smokeless powder and black powder? are they not the same ingredients? These were flakes, if not I will make a nice quick fire in my BBQ grill.

I believe the process that the power goes through to make the "gunpowder" we use now also makes it burn much faster and more "explosive" than untreated old style black power.

I don't own one (yet), but kbscobravert has a picture posted on here somewhere, I think it is in the random picture thread. Looks pretty awesome.

Smokeless modern powders burns much slower than old black powder. The difference is it is more controllable and generates higher pressures.

I'll have to read up on it then, I must be confusing "higher pressure" with faster burn.

This may sound dumb, but what load are you guys running in your cannons? I was just going to start at a grain with black powder and see what happens, but it would be nice to know if any of you guys have measured your charges.

Fill, compress, load and shoot, enjoy.

Like I said, 'it may sound dumb'. Thanks for the info. I ordered it a week ago and it still hasn't shown up so it might not even matter.

Be careful that you don't compress it too much that you snuff out the fuse going in. That is where mine sits now. The cannon is charged but so tight that the fuse burnt down to the barrel and then stopped. I am gonna have to drill the powder out.
