  • American Classic 1911 Commander question

Has anybody had any experience with this handgun? I am thinking about getting one and just want to know what you guys think about it.

Cheaper Than Dirt! is America's Ultimate Shooting Sports Discounter, and we live up to that title. Expect bulk ammo deals, discount firearms, parts to build your next gun and more.

Any other ideas about the commander frame that is cheaper than 800 dollars?

Save some more and buy a real commander, a colt.

Friend of mine has 2 of them & for the money I think there good. The magazines that come with them are junk though so you will need to get some better one's.

I've heard good things about AC 1911's. I've never shot one or seen one though.

I have one 600 rnds down the pipe and 0 issues and its very accurate too.
I would go beat the fuck out of all of them within an inch of their life, then fuck their chihuahua while they watch as they get loaded into the ambulance

I wouldn't buy one myself, but I guess I'm a gun snob. My only 1911s are both Colts.
I'd rather look around for a good deal on a slightly used, well cared for quality gun, than a brand new one that IMO is not as well made. If you look around long enough you can find some great deals. I usually troll THF and gun shows.

Edit: What about an STI Spartan IV?
Atlantic Blue '00 - '03 Cobra motor and TKO600, solid axle, full MM suspension

What tells you this gun isn't well made? The price?

Well, I'd have to admit that my experience with 1911s made in the Phillipines has not been with the recent offerings like the one being discussed here. The old reputation of cheap inaccurate guns may have just stuck with me. I'm mainly going off the fit and finish of guns I've seen, how much attention was paid to the smoothness of certain important areas, etc.
I realize that things made overseas are naturally going to cost less than American made guns. Are they using quality metal in these guns?
LOL, after doing some research it looks like the frame on the STI Spartan IV that I recommended is actually a RIA piece, which is made by Armscor out of the Phillipines. Looks like High Standard, Citadel, and Charles Daly are all Armscor as well.

That's where I was going with it. When it comes to guns don't let price and POI determine what is quality or what isn't. Some guns are great quality despite what the price reflects. And similarly, guns that are terrible quality are sometimes expensive. Once thing I've learned is sometimes cheap junk is actually pretty good. I try to keep an open mind about all guns until I have experience with them. I had an RIA compact 1911 and it jammed on anything but ball rounds, however it was accurate as shit (and I mean real accurate). So for $300 it was a very capable weapon, and some might say it's a cheap pos. No, it's a really accurate $300 1911, no one else competes in that market, doesn't mean it's junk.

The Spartan is a little cheaper than that but for a real STI $1000 and up depending on model and options. I really wish I had a dealer local for STI I've wanted to get an up close hands on look at a few for awhile but the only ones people have up this way are $4000 open comp race guns.
