I need a Nice wood stock rifle.

Im looking for a semi auto hunting rifle in .243.

The stock has to be wood, Has to be out of the box accurate. All i want to do is put a scope on it and go shoot it.

With the new 58 gr vmaxs out there it would make a hellva varmint round. I could also still use it to take deer.

Take a look at Brownings. Stay away from Remmington 742's. They aren't called "jam-o-matics" for nothing.

Kind of limited on your choices on the wood .243.
First choice would be the Browning BAR with the only real second is the Rem 750
The Browning is a gorgeous gun but is also a few hundred more then the Remmy.

THe family has two remington 243s. I am not sure on the model #s but i dont remember any problems with them. I do know that the factory trigger in my dads is prob the best off the shelf trigger i have shot. Keep in mind its had 20 years of use.

Tikka makes a nice rifle, but they are bolt. The one thing I do like is that they have detachable mags.

I do not know why but i just do not like synthetic stock rifles. It makes them look cheap imho.

Its a toss up for me. I have three rifles that i want. I have a complete lower built for a 14.5 or 12.5 ar. I just need to buy the upper. With the price of the uppers and accessories that i want to finish it i could buy a nice rifle.

A rem 700 308 bolt. I dont know why i want this, but i feel i need a .308

Or a nice quality semi 243 hunting rifle of my own that has not been in a dusty truck for 20 years. His still shoots great, but it looks like hell.

243s are usually three things. A starter hunting rifle, a truck gun, or a dedicated varmint gun. Just curious, what is the reason you are sold on the 243?

And I somewhat agree on the synth stocked guns. Somewhat. I do not own a wood stocked gun, at all. That said I also do not own a cheap plastic stocked bolt action either. All my synth stocked guns are aftermarket upgraded stocks other then my Encore which is the Pro-Hunter Flextech stock. The Encore is the one I have been wanting to change over to wood for my nice gun, something like this:

I can use it for coyotes and deer at the farm.

More so it will be a varmint gun like the ar. It will have longer reach capability that the ar without blowing a basket ball size holes in the side of them at 400 yards.

Then come deer season i could use it with a nice heavy load. Where i hunt deer out of 8 out of 10 are shot under a 100 yards. We have some stupid deer lmao.

Is there something else that you could suggest that i would not have a problem walking into the general store and finding ammo for if i needed to?

Keep in mind its a 90 mile round trip to a wal-mart. Or the first ever cabelas in Kearney nebraska. With hornady right down the road.

Oh I have no problem with the round at all, it is a good solid caliber and will handle what you described well. I was just curious.....

I have actually been carrying just my varmint gun to the stand instead of two guns and it is just a 22-250.

I want a 22-250 as well. Its just down the list a little bit. It would be higher if i didnt need .24 or larger to take deer.

I have shot plenty of deer with 22-250. Just have to be more confident with the gun, and more selective of shot placement. Spine/neck shots on bucks, head on doe....
