"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

I have never shot a man, thank God, but I have shot many a living creature with small calibers.
I have shot countless squirrels with a 22lr, and shot placement is important, as is the type of bullet you use. It is amazing how different a hollow point is from a round nose. I have shot one squirrel 3 times in the center mass with a round nose and it was still alive, while typically a hollow point will kill it outright.
I have also shot armadillos and racoons with 22s and 9mms from a sub2000 carbine, and while a 22 will kill them, they still run and you have to find the motherfucker in brush. The 9mm with hollow points killed them instantly.
Because of my experience with animals I know that while a small round will kill, a bigger round/hollow point does it a hell of alot quicker and a hell of alot better. Shoot a perp with a .25acp round and he may die, but he is going to keep slinging lead until he bleeds out. Shoot him with a .357 magnum and that fucker is going to be knocked out of his timberland boots and going right into hydrostatic shock.Originally posted by lincolnboyAfter watching Games of Thrones, makes me glad i was not born in those years.
