Question for you reloaders

Here is something that a friend of mine brought up, kind of an interesting "thought". We both reload.

Reloading your carry ammo. You can build it up to highest possible charge, and pick the best blossoming hollow point... Essentially, the best possible "kill round". Now you've shot someone in self defense, and the cause was justified. You don't go to jail, but a civil case is brought up against you. What if the accusing party finds out that the ammunition you used was not over the counter? What if they somehow make a claim that you engineered the round for the maximum amount of damage and somehow prove that if any other round were used the person you shot could still be alive? Don't focus on my claims, just the idea of using hand made ammunition. Just an interesting thought.

Had a similar discussion with chl instructor, I feel having to worry about a civil case is shit but it is the way the boat floats these days. Also not sure but doesn't the castle doctrine take the possibility of a civil case out of the picture and if so does that cover a chl holder as well

BTW I only carry factory loaded ammo.

If it is a good shoot you are given immunity against any civil action in TX.

Why would killing with hand loaded ammo be any different then killing with a homemade custom knife?

Factory ammunition is commonly advertised as being engineered to achieve the greatest possible stopping power. Engineering your own for the same purposes is to strive to exercise your rights to defend yourself to the best of your legal ability.

Precisely my point. That, I've never had a double charge, and the only squib I've ever had with one of my reloads was intentional (to see what it sounded and felt like). I don't know that many manufacturers can say the same things.

Shotgun stuff has been the very worst in my experiences, only bad reloads in shotty have been stuff that's really old.

The purpose of having to use your weapon in the first place was just to stop the person from doing you harm, not to kill. The reason you pick a hollow point rounds or load high expantion is it stays in the first person, shallow penatration and no secondary kill. A large surface wound will take them out of the fight psychologially and not penatrate enough to kill. "You are protecting inocent bystanders"

If there is no criminal charge in a justified shooting, then you are protected against any civil claims, meaning they can't file a civil suit for the same actions. Castle Docterin(sp)... So there is really not much to be discussed.

Just pointing out as CHL holders we don't have "the best kill round" it's the best stopping round. The Castle law change removed the requirement to retreat first and to not only include your home (castle) but also directly traveling in a private motor vehicle to another place you control anywhere else not covered. If you live in Texas you can be sued anytime a fast talking lawyer thinks he can make a buck anyway.
