  • Optic mount Q

I bought a Savage 308 rifle and a 3-9X40 Scope to go on it .. bought some 1" high scope rings and a 2 peice "weaver style" base mounts... the guy at academy mounted the scope and put it back in the box.... I get home and it looks like the scope is tilted a bit forward..just doesnt look right.. I thought it was suopposed to be level ?
Sorry for the crappy pic but you can see the tilt..

Here are the mounts and the optice mounted to the gun

The bases probably have a bit of MOA built into them, it won't hurt a thing.

Try zeroing it. If there's still a problem, put a one piece scope mount on it.

Those don't look like high rings at all.

The rear base is considerably taller than the front but neither appear to have any angle/cant built into them.

The scope tube, to me, looks like it is flexed quite a bit too.

Loosen the screw on the front scope ring, like you would if you were going to take the scope off. If the scope ring comes up off the base, then you know it has the wrong bases installed.

If that is the case...I would take it back and tell them I want everything replaced then take it to someone else who knows what they are doing to have the correct bases installed and have the scope mounted and bore sighted...

I will do it if you are close to Lewisville.

Looks like wrong bases to me...
All 3 lines should be parralel to each other.
If it were a canted base, then the top 2 lines should be equal in angle.

I am actually close to lewisville I'm not too far from HPP

I am about to go Return/exchange the stuff the first pic I posted is the difference in height of the rear and front base .. looks like maybe an 1/8th inch

and when i took the scope ring tops off they were barely hand tight.

They look loose in the pic the front ring has a pretty good size gap between the top and bottom half. The bases could be for a different action design.

Well took it back to the old guy I usually deal with and let him look at it and he says .. nope all wrong...

so he fixed me up with the right bases (free) a better scope ring set (no extra charge) and bore sighted it again. told me he didnt see anything wrong with the optic but if i couldnt get it sighted in to bring it back as well and he would take care of me on that too..
