  • Favorite charging handle

So, I want to put on a new charging handle, and want to see everybody's favorite.

Personally, I want something I can move the bolt back with my left hand while maintaining the grip with the right. So something my finger can catch on to as I make the motion, without really grabbing the charging handle.

I have the BCM gunfighter large latch. I like it, on my 6.8 im going to try the DPMS tac latch.

Without my gun hobby. I would cut off my own dick and let the rats eat it...

+1 for BCM Gunfighter. I use a large latch for all my AR-15's.

I run the same one (BCM Large) on my 3 gun AR and love it. Nice solid construction, and sticks out enough that I don't have to worry about grabbing it with my scope on the rifle.

The stock one. I've tried various charging handles and latching levers and always wind up back with the stock one. Extended ones tend to try to stab me though my sternum unless I'm wearing body armor so I dumped them. If you need one you can operate with your right hand take a look at this one. Stays low profile and allows ambi operation.

Pretty much this. The big latches work great when you are at the range or just out for a nice afternoon shoot, but if you have ever tried to field a gun with a badger latch then you know how it stabs you in the chest over and over again.

Because of this I must recommend just buying a badger latch and swapping it out with the stock latch so you can switch back and forth with just a 1/16th punch.

It's $14 and beats spending 2 or three times as much for a new handle.

ok, I guess I'll be the one asking the dumb question...What is this for and what does it do? I'm sure I'll need one for my ar build, which is why I'm asking.

Allows you to charge the weapon. Since the AR15 is a gas operated rifle, if you forget to fill the tank with gas you can rely on the battery to keep the gun operational for a short time. Just attach the leads of the jumper cables to opposite sides of the handle after you lock the bolt back. This is what they mean when they say the rifle is "in battery".

Yes you will need a charging handle. In the video below the charging handle is what the guy is holding in his left hand and slowly lets it forward. You wouldn't really do this in real life he's doing it so you can see what is going on.

On an AK the "charging handle" is the knob sticking off the right side that is actually cast into the bolt carrier.

You remember the stories John use to tell us about the the three chinamen playing Fantan? This guy runs up to them and says, "Hey, the world's coming to an end!" and the first one says, "Well, I best go to the mission and pray," and the second one says, "Well, hell, I'm gonna go and buy me a case of Mezcal and six whores," and the third one says "Well, I'm gonna finish the game." I shall finish the game, Doc.
