Not sure when they are planning on rolling into production as its existence was announced at SHOT....smaller than a ruger lc9 Review http://www.gunsamerica.com/blog/springfield-armory-xds/ Not sure if "official" site or not http://xdspistol.com/

I'm definitely going to pick one up, SA finally decided to take on the G36.

Sorry for the repost....I apparently never saw it. Other than the minimal capacity....that is one BEAST of a CCW.

So I'm either slow at finding all the specs I want to see...or I am not that smart on Springfield handguns. What type of action is this gun (double action, single action, DAO, SAO). For personal preference reasons I prefer the double action only style automatics like the Kel-Tec and Ruger LC9 because I really don't see them firing unless the operator absolutely intends for it to fire (essentially like a revolver).

If you were going to classify it by those terms, then Single Action would be best I suppose. It is striker fired, and the striker is fully cocked when the slide is cycled and the trigger only releases the striker. XDs rely on a grip safety, trigger safety, and a decent amount of take up in the trigger compared to a true single action.

They are very similar to a Glock, with the fundamental difference being that the glock only partially cocks the striker with the slide requiring the trigger pull to finish cocking before release.

Both systems give you good passive safety without the heavy trigger pull of a DAO which makes them easier to shoot IMO. My primary carry guns are a sub compact XD9 and HK45C with an LEM trigger.

I like it , but I'd probably lean to the Glock 30 more due to capacity
might get might wife to try both , see what she thinks

I am a 1911 guy so I just picked up a Colt New Agent .45. It's only 25 ounces, narrower and shorter than the XD-S, and holds 7+1. It has a very nice 4 lb trigger from the factory. All a matter of preference I guess on what type of gun you like and what condition you want to carry in.
I do have a Glock 23 with a Ghost Rocket trigger connecter that shoots very well so I'm not a striker fire hater by any means but I just love 1911s.
All the reviews of the XD-S from people that have got to shoot them are very positive. Supposedly it has very good manners for a small lightweight .45 and is easy to shoot accurately.
