My first shotgun was a 70s-80s vintage wingmaster. I love it and its solid and looks nice. I use it for clays, etc and thinking about a shorter barrel for use in HD.2013 F150 STX Supercab 5.0L w/3.55 LSD

I've gotta throw in more for the 870, my dad still hunts with a wingmaster from the 70s, my first gun was an 870 (express) and it was cheap, but I never had a single problem with it.Comment

I was in the same position last year, and it was between the 870 or Mossberg 500, i got a better deal on the Mossberg and got it. So i'll be different and say Mossberg
But either way, you cant go wrong

870, Mossberg 500 or Maverick 88.
Maverick 88 if you want to go into it on a budget. Like under 200 dollar type budget lol. They actually take a bunch of of the 500 accesories and stuff. IIRC you have to do some machining to extend the magazine tube though if you wanted to do something like that.2004 Suzuki DL650

I have a Mossberg 500A Conversion Pump Shotgun. I love it. Paid $275 a few years back and it included a 18.5 home defense barrel and 28 bird/clay barrel. For the price and quality, I don't think you can beat it. Its not the best home gun or the best bird/clay gun but it does both well. It takes about 20 seconds and no tools to swap barrels.Comment

IMHO I'd not go with a Mossberg 500. I know its just personal experience but my buddy had one and nothing but problems. It was very temperamental when working the action. Most times it would just drop the shell out of the bottom of the weaponComment

Winchester 1200 isn't made anymore. I have one last one was made sometime in the mid-80s IIRC. 870 and 500 are still made.2004 Suzuki DL650
