Learning to shoot you can't beat a .22lr. Check the Ruger Single-Six if you want adjustable sights or the Ruger Bearcat is a little smaller but has fixed sights only.

I would start with a .22, and would spend the little extra on a buckmark or ruger... either are extremely soft shooting, accurate and will last a long time.

First time shooter to learn I would say rifle.

I have a Remington model 66 .22 that's she's going to start with. but, I wanted to pick up a small revolver so she can learn how it works and get the basics down. She won't shot it for awhile. Just want her to get familiar with it and the operation.

A .380 revolver? Do not want. A Single Six would be great, though. Get her one of those.

In that case chalk up another vote for the Ruger Single six, simple small and accurate.

Found a little Rossi 22LR / 20 gauge combo that can also convert to 410 and .243 with just a barrel at academy I couldn't pass on.
I like the fact it has adjustable multi color fiber optic sight.

You picked the exact gun I was going to suggest.

If that Remington 66 is semiauto then be carefull. I've seen a lot of first time kids try to turn to look at their parent after they shoot. They look to them for approval or instructions and don't realized they are pointing the gun. I prefer to let them start with single shots, bolt actions, lever actions, etc.
