What makes me interested in bow hunting turkeys is the extended season. But I have a feeling I'd have my 1187 right next to me in any situation.
Lol. Saw your next post after I posted that. Good point.

I like hunting them during deer season when I can sit in the stand and stick the 22-250 out the window to drop one. I don't often go during spring season just due to lack of time, but it's more of a challenge which is nice.

I havnt had a chance to go out yet. Need to go get my tags today. The blind is set up. I have a craps load of birds on my place. It's not in common for me to take a 1000 pictures a day of turkeys.

They are not bad this year, but at one time I counted 230 birds in my winter wheat fields in the fall.

I can stalk up within bow range if I'm stealthy due to hills and red ceder trees block my smell.

I wish I could say it's mine, but it's my uncles place. They have done an awesome job on the remodel when they bought it 6 or 7 years ago. I just get called in when they have large groups of hunters and they need some extra guides or if they need sharp shooters for culls/MLD/pigs

              Come on down to Texas!

I could never afford a hunt there.

I lived in greenville until 2005. I visit from time to time.

Id like to put a hog hunt together for a few people. Group of 5 at the most.

A guy that works with my dad was telling him about how his grandpa used to "hunt" turkey. He would find out where they were and place a 50 gallon drum open side down near the area and scatter corn all around and on top of the barrel. He would do this for a few weeks until they were used to jumping up there to eat corn off the top, then he would flip it over and come back the next day to come get the unlucky turkey or turkeys that jumped up there and fell down inside and got stuck. Not sure if it's true or not but I thought it was a kinda cool story.

Turkeys have a very poor sense of smell. Do not worry about that at all.

I actually got a Jake the other night. It was fun to stick one with a arrow. 40 yard shot.

Only took a total of 10 actual in blind hours. I was using a friends blind on my place. They havnt been responding to calls, but a group of three jakes came to the call like they where on a string.

You also have to call them in, which for some people can be difficult - especially when both of these are combined. With bow hunting you have to call them in even further, and you have to be in a good spot to not be seen while you raise your bow.

As an example, last season I popped out 1200 yards away from a group of hens and toms in a field. Both me and Noel were wearing camo and they spotted us from that far away. We crept up behind the tree line and they were gone by the time we got there. I have a video of it I should post.
There is a cure for not being able to call them in; use a rifle. I normally use a .22 if they are responding to calls and a much bigger rifle if they are not. I have taken toms at 800 meters with a .308. Use tough bullets and the birds don't get blown to shit.
